Gov. Cuomo expressed criticism for the National Weather Service and its forecast of the storm that ravaged the region in a news conference late Saturday.
Cuomo said the NWS didn't indicate that the heavy snow bands would remain stationary and blast South Buffalo and the Southtowns with unprecedented snowfall.
Cuomo indicated that's a big reason why New York is building its own weather forecasting system, that he states will be superior to any other state system in the country.
"No one had an idea that it was gonna be that much snow that fast. Snow coming down at the rate of about five inches an hour, Cuomo said.
Though Cuomo is critical of the NWS coverage of this particular storm, New York's weather forecasting system had been planned since at least last year.
As any responsible Governor would, Cuomo has been front & center during the past week's snow event in WNY... He's participated in a number of press conferences with local leaders (although flying b/w Buffalo & Albany NOT staying here "shoveling" as some would lead to believe).
This recent campaign against the Weather Service and new Agency setup is quite suspect under the circumstances; forecasts weren't that far off, precise squall total are unpredictable and many of his claims are outright untrue. Simply put, it smacks of another power play by Il Douche in the State, this time towards the GW/Environmental crowd.
Cool.
Let the city of Buffalo pay for!
The guy is a fool .Most smart people have left New York State I got out in 1980 the state is run by fools thanks to NYCity..Lake effect snow is hard to forecast In Syracuse one weekend they predicted 3 to 6 and we got 58 inches..
I was wondering it this was satire. I guess not.
I LOVE THIS. This is EXACTLY what the states should be doing: competing with the Federal government. New York might actually be able to predict snowfall better than Fedgov someday. I hope so. All the states should have their own weather centers, and stop depending on Fedgov for everything.
I’d love to see a day when we return to being “these united States” instead of “The United States” (i.e., the unitary superstate we have been since the tragic end of the War of Northern Agression).
Just subscribe to Weatherbell. Joe D’aleo, Joe Bastardi, and Ryan Maue are the greatest!
It may be a commercial (I am a client), but it is also the truth.
A State funded weather service based on global warming hysteria. I’m sure they will be predicting balmy temps due to global warming as the state is freezing in a polar vortex.
OH YEAH BUT WILL NEW YORK’S BE IN ALL CAPS?
a goofball-addicted Kennedy cuckolded this fool.
Campaigning for President 2016 already?
Seems kind of pointless. He’ll have to rely on the same sources of info.
I think most of us around the great lakes have long since been watching the weather reports while making our own predictions.
Maybe Cuomo can have The One issue an EO that requires all weather services to predict the weather accurately.
Look into my eyes: “You do not see snow...you do not see snow...”
Being a weather forecaster can be dangerous with a socialist in control. I remember reading about one put in prison in South America for forecasting rain and causing panic and it didn’t rain, and then there’s Italy that charged their experts for not detecting an earthquake.
Hey Guv!
The snow and the melt come irrespective of who is reporting it!
The weather guys, who can’t even get tomorrow’s weather right, are too wrapped around the axle pimping “global warming” these days. Cuomo needs to get himself an “Indian weather rock” for New Yawk’s weather. They work every time and are never wrong.
So typical. They cannot predict the weather one day ahead of time, yet they tell us with absolute certainty that in 10 years the ice caps will melt and we will have an increase in ocean levels, global temperatures, etc, etc.
The Michael Manns of the world are liars, all of them, nothing but stinking liars.
but, but, but....
They can predict and calculate the Globulll Warmisheeet, but can’t predict weather day or two ahead?????
Just TAXIT! Scientwists at work.
