"AUSTIN, Texas -- Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) is now virtually guaranteed to be victorious in his re-election for Speaker, as thirty five more Republican State Representatives announced this week that they would endorse him. Straus has faced ongoing criticism that he has failed to advance a conservative legislative agenda that reflects the will of the Texas people on a number of key issues, most notably the issue of protecting the unborn. This week's surge of endorsements has fanned the flames of discontent among pro-life advocates that the Texas House under Straus' leadership will once again fail to promote pro-life issues."

Straus's challenger is Scott Turner (R-Rockwall)
What can Lt. Gov. Partick do?
Jeez, I guess it would be too much for the Texas House Republicans to have a rule to first have REPUBLICANS only choose their conference leader (and their Republican candidate for House Speaker) and then have the entire House (both Republicans and ‘RATS) then vote for either THAT candidate or whoever the House ‘RATS put up.
Well, at least the Texas Senate will have an outstanding CONSERVATIVE leader in the Lieutenant Governor.
Dewhurst blocked a lot of conservative agenda with his power to control what the Senate brought up.

Getting rid of Straus and getting the Texas House right is just the next step.
Dewhurst didn't go away because he wanted to.

Yeah, and I don’t understand Tim Kleinschmidt. Kleinschmidt authored HB 176, a fantastic piece of pro-gun legislation. Yet he endorses Straus? How bad can Turner be if you endorse Straus!
Joe Straus is an embarrassment.
Straus lost some of his core GOP support. However, he still holds enough so that with ‘Rat support he can get the Speakership. Since his win is inevitable much GOP support is only for tactical reasons of staying on his good side. If next time around we can knock off a few more of his hardcore GOP support as well as taking some more ‘rat seats his threat of retaliation won’t be able to carry him in again. Fortunately, the momentum is in that direction and he knows it. Maybe that will temper his impulse to side with the ‘rats on everything.
I do love Texas but there’s a lot I don’t understand about politics here.

Slowly some of that is getting changed.
But things like the Governor not having pardon powers stem from carpetbaggers.

Oh wonderful! /s
Good luck over there.
Is that also the source of the rule allowing House minority members to vote for majority only candidates? Retardation of the highest order.
Republicans are Republicans. Don’t confuse them with Conservatives.
Like gun rights.

Back in the days of Speaker Gingrich in the US House, if a third, Conservative, party had got underway, perhaps we would be seeing good results about now. But with each election the focus is always the RIGHT NOW and the future totally disappears from view. When we cannot even conceive of Future the Future is lost.
It takes a lot of work, though. Boots on the ground and ears to the phones.

Oh I know, that’s why I’m an independent libertarian. Parties inevitably become corrupt and/or lazy. Its easy to commit to a party, but its not as easy to commit to an ideology.
this is sickening
Democrats love this guy!
