Its a brilliant, brutally cynical near-term gambit. He delayed action until after the election, he even told everybody he was doing it! And then he completely screwed over the incoming Republican majority, making their lame-duck and first 100 days a complete pain-in-the-ass, while shoring up support among his progressive doubters who, if you watched MSNBC tonight, are back to 2008 levels of adoration.
Still, what are the Republicans going to do? Impeach him? Theres a smart-ish strategy that involves funding the rest of the government while denying DHS the funds to enforce His Majestys edict. But when POTUS vetoes it, what will they do then? Most likely John Boehner and Mitch McConnell will seek some face-saving move that has the effect of letting prosecutorial discretion proceed apace. It might be an enforcement-first measure that doesnt require the president to actually reverse course on amnesty. Or, hey, maybe somebody will sue him, but the chief political virtue of that move is that it stretches out the proceedings along a long enough timeline that they can move on to other things, pick their next battle.

If the past performance is any indication of future performance, nothing. Oh, they may talk, bluster, promise "elect me and I will repeal", while waiting for the heat to go down and it to be old news, but at the end of the day, nothing. Don't believe it, look at obamacare.
Have you read your Constitution lately? Even after the new Congress sits in January, there will be 54 GOP Senators. The Constitution requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate for removal from office. Therefore, 67 Senators must vote to remove Obama in an impeachment trial. Even assuming that all the GOP senators vote to remove, do you really think it’s realistic to expect 13 Dem senators to vote to remove Obama?
I have said that a few times on this db and all I have been met with is silence.
or he will take it eventually.
I dont know, but I do think that it will ultimately be the rats that lead the charge in taking him out. The rat party was here long before this tyrant was born, and will be around long after he departs.
the minute that they realize that he is taking them to hell in a handcart with him, they will toss HIM under the bus, to save their own skins.
just like the repubs did with nixon.
As a legal matter, Obama's fig leaf is that the Administration is just too overburdened to manage deportations, but when it comes to 101 administrative actions to roll out the red carpet to the next generation of democratic voters, the Administration has no difficulty finding the resources. This does not fool anyone.
So the immediate question is: is there, anywhere in these United States, a judge who will issue an emergency injunction blocking a plainly illegal abuse of power? For the umpteenth time, if a Republican president did something like this, the injunction would be issued before cob today.
Then they will simply run against the chaos they created, and they will be abetted by their media.
It is an important detail that both the House and the Senate have complete control over how they do their business.
Importantly, no previous House or Senate can constrain the current one in how it functions.
So if the House wants to, it can change the budgetary process.
Right now, almost all budget bills are “omnibus” bills providing funding for a vast number of evils. But they do not have to be this way.
What the House should do is to start separating the most repulsive of these agencies and activities into their own bills. And only send Obama “must pass” bills that are clean and stripped of anything extraneous.
And then do what Harry Reid did with the funding bills, which is to refuse to consider them, but just for the obnoxious and unconstitutional bills. Once they are separated out, they don’t even get voted on, and no opportunity for Obama to veto them.
With zero funding, they are over and done for. And there is nothing Obama can do about it. He cannot give those agencies a continuing resolution. Without money, they do not function, and their staff does not get paid.
Clearly he has studied his Alinsky very, very well.
There are a few holes in your idea:
1) Obama has shown the willingness to veto partial budget bills, and the Ministry of Propaganda (NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN/WP/LAT/NYT) cheerfully blames “Republicans who are shutting the budget down”.
2) If Obama gets any money at all, he will spend it on things that the money is not earmarked for. Clinton did it, you KNOW this Muslim gay cracksmoker will.
I have read it recently and carry a copy with me all the time. While it does say it requires a 2/3’s vote to remove it merely states 2/3’s present. I doubt it will happen. But to bring it before the Senate and get democrats on the record defending his illegal actions may help expose them also. I don’t have any faith in Congress anymore as they are mostly out for themselves but it is nice to dream. But the disappointment when I awake is terrible.
The unconstitutionality of Obama's action is a plus from his standpoint because it shows up the impotence of the opposition. Just like Putin grabbing Crimea in defiance of world opinion.
Obama's tactics may drive more white Americans into the Republican Party, but that will be compensated for by additional votes by illegal aliens.
In any cathartic, spasmodic, ‘revolutionary’ backlash, the press must be first.
Good description but you are assuming Obama won’t order money to be taken from one account and deposited into another. He has just demonstrated that laws mean nothing.
True. But in 2 years we'll switch incentives and allow these people to 'self deport'... They found a way here - they can find a way back.
I would, if I had one.
Sure mcsquish and the cryer will huff & puff but that's it.
The GOPe is nothing but a collection of whores that have sold this country out for their own aggrandizement.
That is why the Republicans must parse the heck out of the budget bills. Imagine how Obama would panic if hundreds of thousands of bureaucratic voices “cried out for money and were suddenly silenced.” Bureaucrats are more than happy to save their own skins by sacrificing their peers.
And “shutting down the government” doesn’t work if it is just a single agency at a time.
