The head of the NSA issued a blunt warning Thursday to lawmakers: China can shut down the United States.
The grim forecast came from Admiral Michael Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency and commander of the U.S .Cyber Command

Twenty five of the 20 pound propane tanks (bought at yard sales and refilled myself) and about 50 gallons of regular gasoline. I have additional empty storage space for gasoline when necessary.
FYI, One twenty pound propane tank is reported to be able to provide 30 days of cooking for a family of four....
Living in 'Hurricans Alley', I have experience in doing that very thing.
(Three days)After Katrina, we were eating freshly made spaghetti, garlic bread w/wine when the RED Cross from Nebraska arrived asking if we needed MRE's. We invited them to lunch, lol.
Yep, it is absolutely the thing for short term emergencies, I might even buy one some day if I come across a real bargain.
Whoa, dude, you are seriously prepped!
When the SHTF, I am coming to Mobile to find you.
I will be bringing 10-20 close friends and relatives, so be prepared!
The question is can you defend your position from the roving bands of takers? Unless you are very rural and use land/water obstacles as a barrier you will be overrun.
Preppers’ PING!!
Hat tip to dware for the heads up!
King Obama can do it with just a stroke of a pen and a phone call.
Thoughts on Solar (with battery storage so you have off-grid capability)?
Are the roof panels an invitation for looters to target your home, and are they worth the risk?
Major solar installer, home improvement contractor, or self-install?
How much solar - enough to run everything you use now (30 to 42 or more panels), or enough for subsistence (6-18 panels)?
Other thoughts/considerations?
Thoughts on generators? [how much power, how much fuel is prudent, opsec considerations, gas/diesel/propane (anyone have the instructions for biodiesel and actually tried it for practice?), etc.]
Get there quick, before you get too emaciated!
Fresh meat and free labor will always be welcome!
When the SHTF, Blam will probably run something like “terminus” in the walking dead...
“Welcome, you make us stronger.”
It won't. I use 20 lb propane tanks here to cook for one. Range only. I use an electric oven. 20 lbs of propane lasts one person about a month. I also use it to heat water to wash dishes since I haven't had hot running water in over 8 years.
I would knock about 5% of the time off per person I added to the household. So if I added 2 people, I'd knock 3 days off a 30 day supply of propane (20 lbs for me.)
That's my real usage for over 3 years. I won't cook on an electric range if I can avoid it.

FEMA put out a little booklet on how to build a wood-gas generator. It's important to practice that skill. Really important. So is a fire extinguisher.
I've run an internal combustion engine with a wood gas generator.

Why would China want to kill their best customers?
Then all their hundreds of millions of manufacturing workers have no jobs and they become restive....
I've done that for several years at a time.
The first thing that goes is your sense of smell.
When you find yourself sweeping the dirt out of the bed-sheets with a broom (and needing a dust pan), you get serious about mechanical washing.

I’m no pioneer LOL!
You learn to cope, though. Still check my shoes for scorpions and/or mice.
It has kept potential ex-wife #4 from actually becoming a wife. ;)

All professional installers I've seen do not provide for power storage. Only a system that compliments the grid and doesn't run without it. Batteries are somewhat dangerous and there are numerous code issues for installing inside your home. The only legal way to have indoor batteries would be UL-listed UPS systems but they cost a fortune.
Putting together a battery bank from marine batteries is not complicated and reasonably priced. I would recommend an outdoor enclosure and completely independent wiring from your home (basically outdoor extension cords that you'd plug into the batteries only when needed).
That way you avoid code and permit issues. Don't go cheap on the charge controller or inverter since mischarging batteries can result in explosion.
Also, some jurisdictions may require permits for anything electrical attached to your home. This includes low voltage panels/wiring on the roof. You can avoid that with free-standing panels.
Well I’m majorally into the chickens and goats etc but when we shoot a deer or butcher a few chickens I want them in a freezer with the battery bank putting out those amps. LOL!
You are right, We have a couple of generators, and some gasoline stocked. They have been quite useful during power outages. If we could afford solar we would also have that.
We have 2 fireplaces, and 20 acres of undeveloped land with lots of trees. Some coleman stoves, sterno stoves, battery operated stuff like fans, and rechargeable batteries etc.
Electricity is nice, but we have plenty of ancestors that survived without the grid, and I think we are intelligent enough to figure out how to determine to survive without it again. I agree with you that using generators to make a smoother transition makes sense.
NSA will kill the Constitution.
