President Obamas announcement of his immigration executive order Thursday night is apparently for Latino ears only. Though the White House claims that they sent out feelers to the major English-speaking networks, they didnt bother sending an official request for coverage. Instead, only Latino networks Univision and Telemundo are airing the presidents 10-minute announcement.
As The Washington Post notes, the presidents 8 p.m. announcement comes at a particularly opportune time for reaching a captive audience of Hispanic television viewers: the 15th annual Latin Grammys, which airs on Univision starting at 7 p.m. Last year around 9.8 million viewers tuned into the awards ceremony. Univision is doing its part to make sure the president's message reaches its millions of viewers by temporarily postponing the show to broadcast Obamas address.
Reports have it that illegal immigrants across the country are throwing watch parties in anticipation of the presidents announcement of amnesty for around 5 million immigrants here illegally. One Chicago Latino leader, Pastor Emma Lozano of Aldaberto United Methodist Church, told The Washington Times shell be watching the address alongside people currently facing deportation:
Were going to be watching this very closely, people in my church, said Aldaberto. Were going to have the TV on in both languages and really praying and hoping we get what we deserve.
Though Politico reports that the White House is exasperated that the big English-speaking networks snubbed the announcement, the same report reveals that the Obama administration didnt bother sending the standard formal request for coverage to networks Wednesday. Instead, the White House simply posted an announcement of the message on its Facebook pageperhaps the first such announcement of its kind.
How many muslim terrorists here illegally will Obama be granting amnesty to?
Amazing for what is the most important presidential speech since Nixon’s resignation. As I said before, it’s not every day that you get to see a president declare himself dictator.
Were going to be watching this very closely, people in my church, said Aldaberto. Were going to have the TV on in both languages and really praying and hoping we get what we deserve.
This attitude is where we are at, unfortunately. There is this sense of entitlement in the illegal alien community. There is this notion that they “deserve” something, for having broken our laws.
I think it’s interesting how Mexico deals with illegal aliens in that country.
Don't laugh, this is EXACTLY what Hugo Chavez did to allow Chavez to use Venezuela's Democratic system to his own means to take full dictatorial control of the country.
divide and conquer
Funny, some are characterizing the refusal of the major networks to broadcast the speech as some kind of snub when it’s just the msm doing obamas bidding again.
November 20 is also “National Revolution Day” in Mexico.
I say screw it... Let this guy and the gutless democrats continue their self destruction... Let this continue until the 2016 election. Let’s hope they run Pochahontas or Hillary...
also, I think you’ll find alot of Mexican and Non-Mexican law abiding citizens from abroad upset with this. The guy is panning to a small minority.
very interesting
hands up if youre surprised...
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Pants UP Don't Loot!"
Yea I noticed that quote to. What you deserve is deportation! This is why Americans hate Amnesty so much. It is UNFAIR AND UNLAWFUL!!
