"..For Tacherra to have a chance of winning, the rural Fresno County dairyman needed an overwhelming victory margin in the remaining votes from Merced and Madera counties—which to date had been his strongest parts of the district. Both counties finished their vote counts, and Tacherra, 39, actually lost ground to Costa, 62. To have even had a chance of catching Costa, Tacherra would have had to win more than 80% of those votes....
....When Fresno County’s count came out, Costa won 1,056 votes to Tacherra’s 447.
Costa ended up winning 63.9% of the Fresno County votes to Tacherra’s 36.1%. In Madera, Tacherra won 66% of the vote to Costa’s 34%, and in Merced, Tacherra won 55% to Costa’s 45%.
Overall,Costa won 50.7% and Tacherra 49.2%.
......This year, Tacherra had a surprising 736-vote lead over Costa on election night.
It was more surprising than 2010 because that year, Republicans in mid-September realized Vidak had a chance to beat Costa, and by mid-October independent groups were spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to tout Vidak or attack Costa. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in turn spent big in support of Costa.
Tacherra got no such help from the [NRC] Committee or any independent groups. None of the polling showed Tacherra had a chance, but most of the polling assumed a much higher voter turnout.
A few days after the election, a Madera County update pushed Tacherra’s lead to 1,775, and some Republicans started celebrating what they thought was a huge upset win for Tacherra,who headed off to Washington for freshman lawmaker orientation. Some conservative commentators hailed Tacherra. Firebrand Republican Assembly Member Tim Donnelly gave Tacherra a win in public comments.
But as each new vote count showed Tacherra’s lead fading,Republican optimism gave way to a bit of post-election remorse: if only they’d put a little money into the Costa-Tacherra campaign.....

Tacherra had a real shot at winning - he came out of “nowhere” and with no campaign chest, yet he went everywhere people were and he MADE them listen and learn the truth.

Actually, Laz, in regards to rule number one, a state senate race here in Maine went the other way.
The dem candidate won by 24 votes.
After a recount, it was announced yesterday that the GOP candidate won the state senate seat by 11 votes.
This gives the Maine GOP their best showing in 40 years in the state senate.
Wow! That is — literally — THE VERY FIRST TIME I have ever heard a recount go to the Republican.
The closest was the 2000 Presidential race, and the only reason I don’t count that is that the left was still trying when the Supreme Court stopped them.
You know, in retrospect, it might have been better if Gore won. We probably would not have Obama now.

At least 5 stolen races in Cali, maybe 7. MINUS 1 seat for the GOP.
In a POTUS year, I’m not optimistic.
So, in California, the GOP LOST a House seat on Election Night, despite the fact they got more votes in several districts in the open primaries. Yeah, sure. More Democrat theft, just like they pulled in 2010.
The major drawback to Gore having been declared the victor in the 2000 election is this....
Gore would have been president during the September 2001 attacks. He probably would have refused to bomb Taliban positions in Afghanistan because it would have harmed the environment and threatened the habit of an endangered lizard.
It’s awfully fishy. That being said, Obama is not popular in the Central Valley, so I don’t rule out a pickup against the aging Costa.
I don’t know if fraud happened in this case, because no one knew that this race would be close.
9 Cali seats were close or fairly close losses. 9. Ugh.
Do you think we have a chance in any of them in a Potus year? Romney only came close to winning 2 of them (Ruiz, Bera). Could we end up just praying that Denham and Valadao win reelection in 2016?
