Select Renewables ^ | ? | unknown

Although our array was designed to generate 30% of our electricity requirements, we are pleased to report that in reality it generates more than that and on very sunny days, we become a net exporter of clean green electricity.

” As Christians, how much damage is it acceptable to do to our neighbors in order to avoid a better solution?”

Now you’re just trolling.
You see, mankind was commanded to be fruitful, multiply, and subjugate the earth.
Not worship it in place of God.
And palmer already answered your mercury rant.

Haven’t many Chinese in areas where they produce solar cells become ill?

I saw that one before. I’m still laughing from the last time I saw it.

Those folks are just off the rails. “GRRRRAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH! SCREEEEEEEEEEECH!”

Sigh... Our five acres of trees are safe and happy! I can tell by how pretty they are all year long.

...COAL is far more subsidized than solar has ever been.

Back that up or beg the mods for a zot, n00b.

It is a hoot!
Doubly so for me as...
...I used to be an enviro.

It appears that Prophet should have exited stage left when he had the chance.

Fast starting Gas Turbines and the like are used to ramp up and down with load changes. They are shut off as the load drops back down. The other plants are mostly base loaded to operate efficiently.

Those “fast startup” and fast shutdowns (two start and shutdown cycles each day, if not more often when wind turbines are also involved) literally destroy the gas turbine casings and exhausts. Parts that should last 12 years crack in two in 18 months.

Single cycle gas turbines are much less efficient: a fast startup gas turbine is 38 to 42% efficient, a combined cycle GT is 62% efficient.

I had some interesting experiences.
So now I have a low tolerance for enviro propaganda.
Very very low.
Measured in nanometers.
Maybe even angstroms.

I’ll get my electron microscope fired up if you really want to measure that. :)

Well, ten angstroms equal one nanometer.
Maybe picometre or femtometre.

I wasn’t going all the way to picometre, but if you insist...

"ever" is a long time.

In this case, it would refer to whenever the PVC stops producing electricity.

I just truly despise enviro types now.
We had a bridge down the road from where we used to live.
Built by the WPA in 1936, it was falling apart and needed immediate replacement.
The day they started pulling the decking off, the local enviro lawyer drove around the barriers, out onto the torn up bridge -which he would have litigated for if his tires punctured- and leaped out of his vehicle into the path of the crane counterweight.
Almost got his head removed.
He had greased some palms and gotten an injunction, which left this partially torn up unsafe bridge sitting for three months while endless studies were done.
Finally, it was admitted that the bridge was unsafe.
All it took was someone kicking the bridge abutment and watching three square foot of concrete crumble in response.

The enviro lawyer seethed as the old bridge was taken down.
THEN HE TRIED TO PREVENT ITS REPLACEMENT.
What a doofus..
