At that point I think it is legal to defend your property and self.

You would think, but if it's a protestor (almost certain to be black) is shot by a non-black person, look for the shooter to be arrested.

Korean store owners were shooting at everyone getting anywhere near their stores and I have no recollection of anyone getting charged.

In a riot situation you are in danger of losing life and property at all times.

Didn’t one or both of the parents of the dead criminal in Ferguson end up being charged with a violent felony?

While that was true the first week or two of the 'protests', it no longer is.

Most of the protesters are a variety of other races, and mostly not even American.
