A Turkish football club has decided to issue a hefty fine for beards, after its chairman claimed some footballers look like students of imam-training schools.
"I am 80-year-old and I shave every single day," Gençlerbirliği chairman İlhan Cavcav explained the reasoning of his club's decision to start issuing a fine of 25,000 Turkish Liras ($11,200) to any of its footballers with beards.
"Man, is this an imam-hatip school? You are a sportsman. You should be a model for the youth," he added in an interview with the Doğan News Agency on Nov. 15, while complaining that that his own grandson is negatively affected by the ever-growing beards in the football world.
As "bad examples," Cavcav mentioned Beşiktaş coach Slaven Bilic, Beşiktaş midfielder Olcay Şahan, Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Volkan Demirel and Galatasaray midfielder Selçuk İnan.
Cavcav also said that he applied to Yıldırım Demirören, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) chairman, to adopt a nationwide beard ban for footballers.
"He told me that they could not impose such a restriction because the UEFA would not let them do it. I am fed up with this UEFA. I wish we had some other place to play our football," he concluded, stressing that he will push other clubs to take a common position against beards on the pitch.

İlhan can kiss my ass.
Islam requires that a man show enough facial hare to distinguish him from a woman. In Turkey, likely, beards
may be taken to show support for conservative Islam (as opposed to Turkish secularism).
The twins?
George Steinbrenner did the same thing with the Yankees.
I always thought Turks were more mustache-types.
In spring I won't.
That's the way that works. Boy-twin may emulate me, when he can grow a beard. ;)

Bad news for Leo DiCaprio’s girlfriends.
I’ve been off on a medical leave for a few months now and the first thing i did was stop shaving. I go back on the first of the year. I will shave it off new years eve. when I retire I’m going full “Duck Dynasty”.

Not only that, but he is not Muslim, he is a Catholic Croatian. The owner is not the first one in sports with the same idea. George Steinbrenner had the same rule for the Yankees, no beards. That rule was for everyone from the majors right down to rookie ball.
George Steinbrenner did the same thing with the Yankees.

Wasn’t it Johnny Damon that said there was NO way he would ever shave and get a hair cut.
Big George waved a BIG check in front of him and Johnny D was looking for a barber.
That’s right; money talks!

There was an out of work football coach that was announcing NFL games (Marty Schottenheimer) that made an on air comment that Dan Snyder (REDSKINS) was such an ass that there was no way he would EVER coach for him.
Snyder waved the BIG BUCKS, Marty signed and I think he was fired within 3 years (at least he had some time left) .. I opined at the time that Snyder hired him just for the pleasure of eventually firing him...
(Probably a ridiculous assumption BUT I do believe Snyders ego is that big).
NOW, if Mike Rizzo would tell the world that Mgr Matt Williams’ hair is too long (both are cue balls). <: <:
That’s funny; you’re probably right that he was hired just so he could be fired (and abused in the meantime)...
