#2 – Eagles: “Lyin’ Eyes”

This song was inspired by an evening at a bar in L.A. where the guys saw a number of attractive young girls with their much older sugar daddies. What were their lives like, they wondered. Thus was born one of their greatest hits. This is the long version. You don’t cut a Picasso to fit the frame!

#14 – The Bee Gees: “Nights on Broadway”

They had put their naive style of lyrics aside to go Disco, and their greatest years lay just ahead of them.

#1 – Elton John: “Island Girl”

Just how many hits could Elton get off one album? The disk had been around for two years, but he squeezed another hit off it.

Elton John: “Island Girl”

That’s it for tonight. I’m off for a few weeks before I turn to December 1976. Cue the Rockumentary theme!

Wasn't there a faux controversy about the lyrics to "Dancing Queen" where they sing "where they play the right music" and this was construed to "where they play the white music".

And ABBA was soundly criticized?

I don't remember that.

For years, when the Doobie Brothers sang, "The wise man has the power," I thought they were singing, "The white man has the power."

As an aside, I just moved to Yakima and was just outside for a minute and I heard off in the far distance a couple of "Ka-booms" and a bit of rumbling.

The Army's Yakima Firing Center is north of here. When I was at Ft. Lewis with the 2/3 Field Artillery, we would come here to train.

Ahh, music to my ears..:-)
