Republicans will now taste their bitter harvest
The Washington Post ^ | November 11, 2014 | Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor & publisher, The Nation

In the early 3rd century B.C., after King Pyrrhus of Epirus again took brutal casualties in defeating the Romans, he told one person who offered congratulations, “If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined.” In his more sober moments, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), about to achieve his lifelong ambition of becoming Senate majority leader, may wonder whether he, too, has achieved a pyrrhic victory.

Republicans are still crowing about the sweeping victories in 2014 that give them control of both houses of Congress. They will set the agenda, deciding what gets considered, investigated and voted on. Their ideas will drive the debate.

But Republicans have no mandate because they offered no agenda. Republicans reaped the rewards of McConnell’s scorched-earth strategy, obstructing President Obama relentlessly, helping to create the failure that voters would pin on the party in power. But the collateral damage is that the “party of ‘no’ ” has no agreement on what is yes. Instead of using the years in the wilderness to develop new ideas and a clear vision, Republicans have used them only to sharpen their tongues, grow their claws and practice their backhands....

I think she has gotten McConnell and Harry Reid confused.

I know it’s only a week after the slaughter, but our side needs to be on Templar-scaled assault against the RATS, now that we’ve been given the public trust.

Not standing around and resting after their 10-yr assault while the enemy arrows keep coming in after their defeat.

I agree. When they’re bleeding on the ground its easier to step on their necks...speaking figuratively, of course.

The specificity of Leftist projection - motives, tactics, even thought processes - never fails to astound me. It is EXACTLY like watching an insane person being able to give a detailed explanation of insanity as long as they can project their descriptions against a sane person, yet at the same time they are utterly convinced of their own sanity while admitting the often bark like a dog and take baths in jello, because they believe “everybody does it.”

And the Post wonders why their circulation and influence continue to drop? I dropped the Post years before exiting the “People’s Republic” of Northern Virginia. Just couldn’t put up with their biased reporting and pandering to Democrats any longer. Many normal Virginians look at representatives like Moran (thankfully retiring but expect his brother to make a future bid) and Connolly and wonder wtf happened to our state?

While the writer's thesis may be wrong, her title just may be right. Much to the contrary of what the author puts forth, Republicans were given a sweeping mandate to stop and roll back the abuses of the current administration, but McConnel and Boehner are now like a dog that finally caught the car they've been chasing all these years and have to figure out what to do with it.

The mandate of the voters is clear an unmistakable. It is however, also at odds with the interests of the GOPe and the so-called party leadership, and I suspect they will attempt to reconcile the two by doing as little as possible to upset the status quo. The question is how much the fresh blood in the party (i.e. Cruz, Lee, etc.) can wrest de facto leadership from the titular heads and actually implement a conservative agenda....
