If you were observing American elections from the outside, you might be asking yourself the following:
Can't these people make up their minds? Four out of the last five elections (2006, 2008, 2010 and now 2014) were "wave" elections in which one party won a sweeping victory. They elect a president of one party, then two years later almost inevitably give the other party a huge victory in the midterm election. Why do they expect things to change?
Good question. It's always dangerous to speak of a country of 319 million as having a singular will, or of an election expressing that will. That's particularly true when only about 40% of eligible voters show up for midterm elections. Like every party that wins, the GOP will claim that "the American people" have endorsed its agenda in full, and therefore if President Barack Obama stands in its way, then he's thwarting the public's desires.

Best thing to do for a temper tantrum is to ignore it.
The elections of 2006, 2008 and 2012 were anomalies. Primarily driven by media manipulation. You can fool all of the people (or at lease a voting majority) some of the time. But you can’t fool them forever. A majority of American has just realized that they were being bamboozled by the MSM and Democrats.
It’s worthless commentary from CNN, but they are forced into saying something for the twenty-four hour cycle. Better this, than analyzing pontoon boat sales in Kentucky or the mosquito population of Florida.
I remember Clinton and the Democrats were claiming a mandate after winning 43% of the vote.
Embrace the Suck, Liberals!
No we did not get all that we want. We want Obama gone. We want our Country back. Its a strat but we have a ling way to go...........
Just keep saying We Won. lol.
“They elect a president of one party, then two years later almost inevitably give the other party a huge victory in the midterm election.”
Makes one wonder if that presidential election was
legitimate at all. After all the president elect got caught
,red handed, cheating.
Is Hussein still breathing?
Poor CNN, they are hanging on to the last thread they have. I think it is time to flush twice and get rid of them forever.
The “mandate” notion has always struck me as odd. Even in what we call a “landslide election,” where the winner gets 60% vs. 40% for the loser, all it means is that three out of every five people agreed.
Is three of five really supposed to legitimize changing everything around for all?
The big competition among liberals now is which one of the various competing post-election spins gets to be the new Official Party Line on what happened in 2014.
Funny they don’t think this way when “their side” wins. Then it’s all breathless stories about mandates and “I Won”.
I say that’s a major difference. When Republicans win, it’s in spite of the media. When the rats win, it’s with the help of the media.
I don’t know why they’d bother now, when they, along with the rest of the MSM< ignored the coming change in the run up to the election.
Actually, I’ve been saying something similar for years. The American electorate is very fickle. They claim to want low taxes, personal responsibility, and less Government debt. But try to actually take steps to make that happen, like cut ANY Federal program (especially one that benefits them in even the slightest way), and there will be a huge backlash. Likewise, use other tactics (like shutting down the Federal Government) ditto. They don’t like illegals, but try to kick any out and everybody moans about how unfair & un-American that is. In a way, we deserve exactly what we get.
This is why whenever politicians talk about cutting Government, they always use non-specific terms like “fraud” and “waste”. Obama did this to good effect in 2008. Basically, we want to have our cake and eat it too.
CNN and other liberal tail wagging lucky media were praising the nations “singular will” in the 2008 and 2012 elections. Why the change now? Need we speculate?
I'd dispute that characterization. 2006 may have been a "tsunami" election, followed by a smaller wave in 2008. But 2010 was "a return to normal sea levels". In 2012, a pop culture president was returned to power for reasons that could not have considered his job performance, since pretty much nothing that he promised would happen after his election, actually happened. And most things that he promised would get better after his election, actually got worse.
I think "these people" have definitely made up their minds that they don't like the direction that the country is headed. They'll continue to fire the rascals every few years if they can't produce.
“Lucky?” Dang auto correct
