When you suffer a defeat, sometimes the only thing you can do is crawl into your dark place and stay there until youre ready to come back out and get on with your life. Understandably, many Democrats seem to be going through that process after Tuesdays midterm elections resulted in massive gains for Congressional Republicans. The GOP retained power over the House, took control of the Senate and further diminished President Obamas relevancy. Thats a lot to take in. Here are five ways Democrats are consoling themselves:
1. Denying the elections impact, as CNNs Sally Kohn and MSNBCs Joy Reid have done:
This election is not a shellacking. Its a speed bump. The long arc of history bends toward an increasingly progressive electorate.

Whatever happens tonight I think its fair to say that this is no wave election. Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid)
2. Changing the subject...
3. Hating the game instead of the players...
4. Searching for alternate sources of blame in a Ouija board-like fashion...
5. And on a somewhat more optimistic note, hoping the future is better than the present, like MSNBCs Chris Matthews, Salons Joan Walsh, and the Rev. Al Sharpton:
And ah...this quote from Salon's Joan Walsh is rather a "classic keeper":
[C'mon, Joan, couldn't have you -- for the benefit of Dems -- been a little more subtle with that assessment?]
6. Assisted suicide.
I wouldn’t mind them crawling into a dark space provided it’s enclosed and also contains a running automobile.
Its not the Dear Leader’s fault.
Its the selfish, stupid sheeple who are ungrateful and don’t appreciate he has their best interests at heart.
After all, Obama is the ObaMessiah!
They are painting and repainting their toenails... I mean even the females.

Whatever happens at the rodeo tonight, I think it’s fair to say no cowboys or horses were involved” - JOI “Harry” Reid
Remember all the moonbats who ran to their shrinks for help after the 2004 election? I think it was called Post Election Selection Trauma (PEST).
Best tweet in article:
“Midterm elections confirm: Most voters don’t see women as propulsion systems for their lady parts!”
This translates to: "The racist white people and the women who aren't really women because they don't agree with me will die off eventually and we have the minority and Real Wymmyn's votes locked up forever." There are a couple of pretty creaky premises there...
