The Kansas governors race was a nailbiter all night, with Republican incumbent Sam Brownback neck and neck with his Democrat challenger Paul Davis right up until Davis conceded around midnight EST. Looking at recent media coverage leading up to the election, though, you never wouldve known that #KSgov was a race to watch, especially since so many talking heads heralded it as a referendum on conservative policies.
Left and right wing outlets began writing Brownback off for his aggressive tax policies weeks and even months ago, with many calling his predicted loss a mandate for moderation. With 100% of precincts reporting and Brownback having taken 49.96% of the vote compared to Daviss 46.06% with a higher Kansas voter turnout than in 2010 lets track the evolution of the narrative.
Why Are a Conservative Governor and Conservative Senate Candidate Struggling in Kansas? Dave Weigel, Slate, 3/14/14.
In 2013 Gov. Sam Brownback had the votes to dramatically slash income tax rates, while keeping sales taxes above 6 percent. Hows it working? Well, unusually for a governor whos returning money to taxpayers, Brownback has become terribly unpopular.
A Cautionary Tale In Brownbacks Failed Kansas Experiment. Steve Benen, MSNBC, 7/1/14.
Brownback remains convinced, right now, that his policies were the right call, just as Darrell Issa believes theres still an IRS scandal, John McCain believes war in Iraq is a great idea, and the entirety of the Republican Party believes the ACA is failing and the Benghazi conspiracy theories are true. Brownback is up for re-election. One recent poll showed a competitive race.

The Republicans in Maine, including GOPes such as Olympia Snow and the Bushes came out solid behind LePage the Thursday before the election. Christie came up too. And of course the Tea Party types have always been behind him.
So I think you observations about both groups and Robert
are very good. Well done sir!
I agree but also from my observations on local social media, messageboards, and comment sections, when the Soros family held a fundraiser for Orman, I saw quite a few people turn against him then. At that point with Roberts painting Orman as an 0bama liberal, was just Roberts word against Ormans but anyone that knows anything about politics understands Soros backs the hard left and Orman was a Soros guy. That brought it home for those I observed.

We had a clean sweep in KANSAS not a single democrat won in any state office.
I went to an Overland Park rally where the line up was Bob Dole, Mitt Romney, Sam Brownbach, Kevin Yoder. Mitt was really great as expected. This country lost an great opportunity. He would have been a great President. But the star that day was Bob Dole. Very lucid and right on topic. For 92 years young this guy still has his wit and understands the issues. GOD BLESS BOB DOLE.
Amen
Almost 45 years ago I wrote in Bob Doles name for POTUS in my first Presidential election. And I was born and raised a New Yawker, city type. Go figure.
I occasionally write in Reagan’s name.
