Alaska Senate race still undeclared but Republican Dan Sullivan remains ahead
Washington Post ^ | 11/5/2014 | Sebastian Payne

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — While the rest the nation examines how and why the Republicans took control of the Senate, the races in Alaska remain undeclared. At the time of writing, Republican Dan Sullivan was four points ahead of incumbent Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) — a lead that appears insurmountable given that nearly all the precincts have reported back.

Assuming there are no surprises in whatever votes were still in play -- including absentee ballots -- Sullivan may be on track to be the last big win for the Republican Party. According to Alaska's Division of Elections, the independent gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker also appears to be on track to unseat Gov. Sean Parenell (R). Neither races have been conceded or called.

The Begich campaign stood its ground despite trailing in the late vote count. The campaign manager for Alaskans for Begich, Susanne Fleek-Green, released a statement, stating “Begich will make a statement on the race after counts arrive from the seventy outstanding villages and when the number of outstanding absentee and questioned ballots is clear.”

Sayyyy, didn’t Fox declare for a (D) in another race? Only 72% of the precincts reporting and with a whopping 0.4% lead, and they declared a winnah?

From an Alaska Dispatch News Article:

"Tens of thousands of additional votes won’t be counted until next week, at the earliest, state election officials said. That includes some 20,000 absentee votes the state hadn’t counted as of Tuesday evening -- and even more absentee ballots will continue to arrive through a Nov. 19 deadline. There are also an unspecified number of so-called “questioned ballots” -- typically cast by people who voted at the wrong polling place -- of which there were approximately 13,000 in the last midterm election, in 2010.

But Democrats would need a huge advantage among those uncounted voters to close Sullivan’s lead, which sat above 8,000 votes."

I read somehwere that if these 2 switch over, the chances of Dems regaining control of Senate in 2016 would be slim.

I wonder how much the national rat party is ready to piss away in that race? Not much I reckon.

It'll be utterly hopeless for Landrieu once Obola issues an E.O. on the illegals. I want them to spend a lot on it, all in a wasted effort.

Angus King and Joe Manchin are definitely switchover possibilities - if they want to keep their majority staffs, seniority, and subcommittee chairmanships.

Why would they get all these perks NOW, when they aren't needed for a majority? What do they really bring to the table? Not much, IMHO, simply because we are likely to have 54, because of Alaska and LA. Will they vote for impeachment? Will they oppose amnesty? I didn't think so. We don't need 2 more RINOs - let them face election the next time around and lose to people more genuinely conservative than they are.

We live rural along the upper Yukon. The Dems really pulled out all the stops organizing the Indian Villages to get out the vote. Most villages are small, 100 or less Indians. Most Whites live in town and Indians live 7 miles upriver in their village; I live on the road midway between so I'm close to the Indians too. When I was going to town to vote I ran out and grabbed a few of my Indian buddies and convinced them to vote for the Repubs, talked about scotus & gun control; hot button to even Indians.

Last night, I kept getting calls from Repubs wanting to know if everybody in family voted; they were counting votes in the bush to see if Begich could win from Native vote. They have it figured that Sullivan has won it. Indians are all dems but don't get too serious about voting. I was happy to get a few dem Indians to vote Repub. Also, Indians that are vets are often Republican anyway, no joke.

I thought we were only at 7+ right now, and a AK pickup would make 8+, with the possibility with the LA runoff next month.

“Isn’t Louisiana like ‘election fraud central’ in America?”

They may have been at one time but there’s a lot of competition for that “honor” now.

If you add up the R and D ‘sides’, you get 56 to 43. Mary might as well concede, now.

Of the 70 villages still not reporting, how many are Indian? Unless a good number are Indian, it’s going to be hard to make up 8100 votes.
