Okay, then you’d rather we be under British rule then.

If we didn’t unify, we would have had a very hard time defeating the British. We barely achieved that as it was.

I’m not knowledgeable enough to comment on your assertion chattel or no.

Exactly where did I state the notion that I support remaining under British rule. Though if we had remained under British rule, slavery in the colonies would have ended in 1833 instead of 1865 and avoided killing 600,000 men in the process. The idea that we were “united” to fight the British rule in the Colonies is a misunderstanding of our history. About one third of the population in the Colonies actively support revolution against British rule. About one third population actively supported continuing British rule. The remaining third tried avoiding choosing sides. After the Revolution was won, thousands of people left the Colonies for Canada or the British West Indies to avoid reprisal for actively supporting the Crown.

Maybe the slsves would have appreciated being free a generation earlier.
