The unrestricted use of fossil fuels must end soon if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change.
That is the central message of a stark new report from the UN-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The IPCC urges that by 2050, most of the world's electricity must - and can - be produced from low carbon sources.
Fossil fuels, without carbon capture and storage (CCS), should be phased out "almost entirely" by 2100.
It re-states many familiar positions:
Warming is "unequivocal" and the human influence on climate is clear
Since the 1950s the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia
The period from 1983 to 2012, it says, was likely the warmest 30 year period of the last 1,400 years
Warming impacts are already being seen around the globe, in the acidification of the oceans, the melting of arctic ice and poorer crop yields in many parts
Without concerted action on carbon, temperatures will increase over the coming decades and could be almost 5C above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century

As soon as I read “its about climate change”, the entire article turned me off.
Year 2100.
Carbon based fuels will have already be phased out by scientific advances.
Capitalism made the materials to build this useful idiot’s stupid sign.
Many cities in the world were the same. There has been tremendous progress cleaning up emissions. All the more reason to not stop using the fuels we have.
Year 2100.
“Carbon based fuels will have already be phased out by scientific advances.”
Care to share with us how you reached this conclusion?
I graduated in Petroleum Engineering 41 years ago and I recall people telling me we had only 10 years of oil left.
Right now, we have more reserves in the world we ever have had, and it’s highest production rate.
The scientific advances are overwhelmingly how to produce more oil rather than toward producing more nonhydrocarbons
All future power plants should be fueled by burning yak dung. Automobiles can be powered by windsong and glory. And you can heat your homes by burning your lawn refuse, pets, and excess clothing.
IPCC needs to be phased out this year.

At some point, the price of natural gas will move up to a point where nuclear power is cost effective to build. I also expect that we will finally have fusion reactors generating electricity.
I’d like to see the IPCC clowns “phased out” by the end of the week. The UN sux.
Oddly enough, other changes that occurred to the climate over hundreds of thousands of years when humans weren’t present, apparently don’t count. If they really cared, they’d lead by example and volunteer to stop using any and all “fossil” fuel based material at the u.n. starting today. Of course since “they” believe “they” have “important” work to do, they’d excuse themselves from any and all restrictions. Really, really getting tired of these clowns and their bullying.
(sign)Capitalism is killing us...
Hey, don’t worry; Capitalism will be gone and you’ll be dead anyway when UN Agenda 21 takes effect. They want the Earth’s population reduced by 85%, and they’ll start with their useful idiots like you (bearer of the sign, that is).
Yeah, I’d like to see that.
Yes, let's put the govt. in charge...
God save us from morons.
Absolutely. I’m still waiting for Al Gore to move into a modest, energy efficient home.
You can tell if a leftist really believes in GW by asking if they are in favor of nuclear energy.
Well, don’t hold in any SeeUhO2 waiting on that. :>}
D’oh ,Let the people in the Future make their own decisions ,Fools
The Earth has been getting warmer or colder for 4 billion years. The only constant in Earths environment is change. It will continue to change till its consumed by the Sun.
Man has been on earth .00075% of Earths age or 300,000 years.
Earth will continue to change after man is long gone.
The universe is dynamic. Suns supernova, galaxies collide, planets are formed and lost in black holes daily.
Man is merely a brief observer, not the cause.
When you consider how far we have advanced technologically in the past 85 years, there is no reason not to believe that fossil fuels won’t be replaced naturally.......or the energy output from them improved upon tremendously.
