I saw it when it came to HBO in the Eighties. It’s pretty scary, but after seeing the SNL takeoff of the movie, I found some parts unintentionally hilarious.

HALLOWEEN: SPOOKY CLASSICAL MUSIC

BEETHOVEN: “GHOST” TRIO

Beethoven wrote his two Opus 70 trios for piano, violin and cello at age 38 in the fullness of his art. The second trio in E-flat is laid back, but the first in D Major, known as the “Ghost” Trio because of its spooky second movement, is an edgy piece.

The second movement is in D minor, the Viennese key of death, and Beethoven marks it Largo assai ed espressivo, which means “Keep it as slow as you can but with expression.” The chromatic passage on the piano at the end (9:02) sounds like someone walking over your grave.
