Mitch McConnell willing to kill Obamacare with just 51 votes

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., says he would be willing to repeal Obamacare with a simple majority if he takes over as majority leader in January, his spokesman told the Washington Examiner on Thursday.

The announcement comes just days before Tuesday's midterm congressional election, in which Republicans have a strong chance of seizing the upper chamber from the Democrats and putting the Kentucky senator in charge.

"Leader McConnell is and has always been committed to the full repeal of Obamacare, and he'll continue to lead efforts to repeal and replace it with patient-centered reforms that enable greater choice at lower costs. He knows it won't be easy, but he also believes that if Republicans are fortunate enough to take back the majority we’ll owe it to the American people to try through votes on full repeal, the bill’s most onerous provisions, and reconciliation,” McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire wrote in an emailed statement.

They would be in charge of all committees, and the recalcitrant RINOs in leadership could be hammered mercilessly by their conservative constituents into doing the right thing...on a daily basis.

The more public the criticism, the more effective it is.

But if they’re in the minority (like now) who cares what you say?

a simple majority to defund it

and since its a “tax” it is a simple majority to kill that mandate too

let Obama shut down the government, or 17% of it like he did last time

If you take out the money, it's not Obamacare that collapses, it's the whole system.

Well at the risk sounding like a nihilist, yes, that is the whole point. Obamacare is essentially the fruit of a poisonous tree. The whole funding and payment structure of healthcare delivery is rotten. We understand that the premiums and the taxes we pay outstrip the value of care we get over time. The reasons why we all accept this are a bit beyond the scope of a brief post, but basically it boils down to (IMO) massive gov't control at all levels of the system driven by voter's fear of a catastrophic bank-busting health event.

There are better, saner ways to do this. Maybe cold turkey is the way to go?

This is a racist tax. And I want it removed. now. And I'm as serious as a heart attack.

You're right, but don't let your anger stop there.

The largest banks were bailed out with this same thinking even though there were banks (Wells Fargo, US Bank, etc.) that did not have a lot of bad mortgage paper. If most of the big insurers fail others will step in.

Until they understand that conservatives are the base and will not come out for them unless they make real progress on issues important to us it doesn't matter if we have a majority or not.

That fat pink jerk McConnell is not really this stupid, is he? Tell me no, Turbo.

That stupid remark, which could lose him the election is not for Media Consumption. It's a parliamentary discussion to be carried on among Senators who agree on dumping Obama care.

Yes, repealing this monstrosity will be very difficult after the INSCOs have committed to it, and so much has been spent. But since no one knows to this day what's in it, neither can it go forward. The waivers to it have been illegally granted, etc. etc. ad naus.

If McConnell has the balls, or if he has one at least, and Boehner another, they can defund it, vote it down, and let the Mombasa MF veto away. God help Namby and Pamby if they don't deliver. Tar, feathers, and stout rope await them.

it's not the insurers that matter. It's the hospitals.

Most of them have less than 15 days cash on hand. More than 60% of their money is coming in from PPACA related programs.

Obamacare can't be defunded without nationalization of the system.

Repeal is the only way out, and with Obama in the White House, it is impossible.

There are other places out there where he’s saying it won’t happen because Obama won’t sign it and they’ll never get enough seats to over ride him. As always, quit before the first blow is swung.

I would agree...this is theater, that’s all.

But here’s the thing, as you get to spring of 2015 and realize that another million Americans did not sign up for health care because the costs/deductible was too much...it comes back to rest on the President as he vetoes the 51 vote. Spring of 2016, another bunch quits their health care policy. So you stand there in November of 2016, now realizing that just as many Americans (if not more) have no health insurance than in 2008....the question is....what the heck was this whole mess about?

The eight years ends with a whimper over achievement, or the lack of such.

We had a cost issue. The whole gimmick has no relationship to fixing cost...it was redistribution of money, from one to another. Hours, days, weeks, and months....wasted. Nothing got accomplished.

However congress may have a way to kill funding Obamacare.

May? They have absolute power of the purse, they just don't have a leadership that will use it. Ask Michele Bachmann what happens when you try to defund Boehner's funding of ObamaCare, settled law don'tcha know.

Oh, but first we have to change the rules of the senate to restore the old rules,

Someone pointed out that Dingy Harry would change the rules back on November 5th if he loses the Senate. That is more likely what will happen, then Mitch won't have to do anything.

There is something else happening in response to obamacare. When my insurance was cancelled and the obama policy was double the cost I found a Christian Healthcare Co-op that costs half what my cancelled policy cost. The savings let me contract with a concierge doctor who does not take any insurance. His office will bill the insurance company for me and any reimbursement is sent to me.

IOW, doctors and hospitals are begining to move outside the govt system in larger markets. Over 200,000 doctors have opted out of obamacare and a lot of premier clinics refuse to take obamacare patients.

” t’s the same old story: The Dems propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a workable plan to do it in three stages.”

Nailed it.

“Do you see the Pubs separating themselves from the Chamber of Commerce? I don’t. “

The Chamber of Commerce has spent millions over the past 10 years to defeat conservatives, and promote establishment Republicans. They now control the Republicans in the senate.

You can bet your bottom dollar that “repeal and replace” actually means “keep with minor emendations.”

Yes and No.

Congress can not unilaterally change existing law without POTUS signature. Obamacare funding is already passed by congress and signed into law by Obama. Congress has no veto powers over existing laws.

Congress can only control future spending, because spending bills originate in the House.
