John McCain is already promising to restore the filibuster
McCain won't have to worry about that. If Reid loses his majority, he will have the rule restored during the lame duck session. Reid would not dare leave that rule in place, pending a possibility of a Republican president.
If the Dems win the presidency, very likely either in 2016 or 2018, the Dems will also get the Senate back. Then, they can reinstate the Reid nuclear option.
