During a debate with Democratic challenger David Alameel, Texas Sen. John Cornyn said it is time to reach a "consensus" on immigration reform by "finding parts that we agree on," including providing children of illegal immigrants access to education.
"I believe education is the way out," the Republican said.
He added that the children of parents "who did not comply with our immigration laws are guilty of nothing," and "it makes no sense to condemn them to a minimum-wage job for the rest of their lives when they could produce so much more, when they could be so much more. They would benefit, their families would benefit, and our nation would benefit."
The debate, hosted by KUVN and Univision 23, was little more than a formality as the latest CBS News/YouGov poll finds Cornyn with a 57 percent to 35 percent lead over Alameel.
The debate marked the latest in a series of comments and remarks that indicate Cornyn's positions on some aspects of immigration reform are softening.
"We have a broken immigration system and I am one who would like to fix it.

“Told ya the Republican party had no intention of standing against amnesty.”
So, that meaans YOU won’t be out voting???
I done did already braved the ‘gators, crossed the river, got frisked by the Sheriff’s security, and put my fingerprints all over that electronic machine!
> The estimates are that there’s between 11m and 40m illegal aliens in the US, given that the population is 316m this gives us a range of 3.5% to 12.7% of the population being illegal aliens how much would it need to be an invasion? Moreover, how much is the they will overwhelm us point? 20%? (That’s 1 in 5.) 25%? (That’s 1 in 4.)
Those numbers are just what the government bean counter and the MSM say they are. I was told by a very high ranking former ICE official that there is no way to get anywhere near an accurate count on the illegal immigrant population that’s come across our borders. He said whatever number they tell you multiply it by at least 3. He would say those numbers are way lower than the actual number. I think it’s much higher too. I think they probably comprise between 1/4 to 1/3 of our population right now but Obamie wants to get that number up to 50 % to kill the chances of a white majority population being able to appoint who their leaders are ever again.
Oh, I'm going to vote — I just won't vote Republican unless the guy is worth voting for.
The whole point of my thesis is that one should not vote because the other guy's worse
— especially when we come to Republican/Democrat, as of late there's essentially no difference between the parties.

Cool beans.
That's nowhere near accurate
— notice the variance of more than 29 million, just less than three times the lower bound.
He said whatever number they tell you multiply it by at least 3.
That might be where the 40 million comes from.

I very much suspect you are, for the most part, right; I would disagree that this is Obama's plan
as it started long before he ever dreamed of the Presidency. It'd probably be more accurate to say that is the Globalist's plans — they despise Nationalism as it is a barrier to their New World Order. (I believe that's why we were given Obama/McCain in 2008 [and possibly Mexico-born Romney in 2012], a no win
precedent for choosing a president violative of the Natural Born Citizen requirement.)
“They are not killing themselves they are killing us.”
I concur, thanks for the clarification.
“I cannot believe that the people who voted Obola in twice are closet conservatives, just waiting for a true conservative to vote for.”
That is not at all what I said.
However, if you are right and I am wrong, then our country is lost and there will be bloodshed in my lifetime. I hope you don’t have any children that will suffer the coming consequences.
If I am right and IF the GOP listens, then there is hope to change direction peacefully.
Only time will tell....
“Susan the bimbo Collins of ME has been on record recently saying the GOP has no intention of repealing the ACA but will work to make it better.
But but but, isn’t that better than Reid? I mean, it’s not as if it is a measure of liberty or anything....
The whole lot of DC disgusts me.
“Im against it. ENd of story.”
If we aligned with you, we would still have a whig party.
