WPIX Channel 11 is a real TV station. It’s NYC’s second oldest (formerly) independent TV channel. PIX is old school news talk for pictures, and refers to the channel’s original owner, the NY Daily News—NY’s “Picture Newspaper.”
It originally carried all the Yankee games, fwiw.
Oratem, I’m pretty sure Nota was making a joke about how WPIX SHOULD be Channel 9 because “IX” is “9”, not “11”.
“11” would make it WPXI.
