The nurse forcibly quarantined in New Jersey after she came home from treating Ebola patients in West Africa will be released Monday, state officials said. Kaci Hickox has been held against her will in a tent outside a New Jersey medical center since she was taken off a flight, flushed and distraught, Friday. Hickox has hired a lawyer and spoken out publicly against her quarantine.
Since testing negative for Ebola on early Saturday morning, the patient being monitored in isolation at University Hospital in Newark has thankfully been symptom free for the last 24 hours, New Jersey health department officials said in a statement. As a result, and after being evaluated in coordination with the CDC and the treating clinicians at University Hospital, the patient is being discharged.
The case quickly escalated over the weekend, with Hickox protesting from her confinement and scientists including Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, saying there was no medical basis to hold her. The White House even weighed in, pressing New York and New Jersey to reverse their decisions to quarantine all returning medical workers who have treated Ebola patients.
Hickox will be allowed to take private transport home to Maine. Since the patient had direct exposure to individuals suffering from the Ebola Virus in one of the three West African nations, she is subject to a mandatory New Jersey quarantine order," the statement read.
Health officials in Maine have been notified of her arrangements and will make a determination under their own laws on her treatment when she arrives.

Have you ever talked to some of these people?
We have a couple here local that do this Doctors with No Borders. Most arrogant people I have ever met. It is all about “look at me” and what “I am doing”. They carry their nose so far up in the air if it would rain they would drown.
Liberalism at it’s finest in these two people. Maybe not all of them are like these two but if these are any example it ain’t nothing but a bunch of chest thumpers in that org.
No, she was in that state and subject to that state’s laws.
The "scientists" have carried the agenda, one shown to have been wrong repeatedly. Meanwhile, given that hospitals do not sterilize their sewage effluent, every Ebola patient up until this one has been pooping their untreated diarrhea into the sewers, with rats and other vermin to spread it. As you know, pets that hunt said vermin and eat carrion can carry that virus.
How does that policy constitute effective viral containment Mr. "scientist"?
Most modern ‘scientists’ got their degrees just like everyone else. To save time studying, they googled the answers for their open book exams.
Which is why they believe in all sort of things that aren’t close to scientific.
I suspect that it might be legally questionable to quarantine someone who has tested negative, thereby prohibiting him or her from traveling to another state.
As long as this kind of travel takes place on non-public transport, I am okay with this policy.
Of course, the first time that someone like this becomes infected after transport, there will be new demands for quarantines in that person’s home state.
It is probably reasonable to assume that many states will follow NY and NJ’s lead. And THAT is why Obama is so concerned about their policies.
Not my kids. Moreover, an open book exam is usually tougher than a closed book exam, because it requires that one know enough to apply what is in the book to a problem that is not.
Which is why they believe in all sort of things that arent close to scientific.
I have doubts that the cheeses at these government institutes believe a word they are saying.
This engineer did R&D in a medical device business dedicated to personal protective equipment against viral infections for seven years. The difference between engineers and "scientists" is that what we make must work.
Insofar as what "works" with regard to an ugly virus lacking an effective vaccine, the only thing that does work is preventing infection. 3,000 miles of cold salt water works fine for me, a lot better than viruses floating in sewers beneath my feet.
Considering what ebola actually is and the 21 day incubation period, It is a national security issue. Her rights do not trump those of 300,000,000 other peoples right to remain alive.
I suspect that depends upon the statute. There is precedent for instituting quarantine upon the basis of contact.
Oh there are some that deserve the title. But fewer by the year. On open book tests, the modern method is simply take the question, google the answer and no book need be cracked open to begin with. I’ve seen it happen. And the teachers are fine with it.
Because they got their degree the same way.
Should this backfire it will be interesting to hear the excuses offered by “Donut Boy”.

Chris Christie was forced on Monday to allow a nurse being kept in a tent in a hospital parking lot to go home after intense White House pressure to relax a mandatory 21-day quarantine the New Jersey Governor had imposed at a state level.

Look, both my girls just graduated from college, one from Utah State and the other from Stanford. They never saw such a thing even once. For the latter, her upper division courses didn't even have textbooks because the science moves too fast for one to be relevant. What you describe happens in "science" classes for non-technical majors, but not in core courses for science degree programs anywhere of which I am aware.
Maybe— I am not attorney. But historically, interstate matters (which I assume to include interstate travel by US citizens) have usually been considered the domain of the federal government.
Both Christie and Cuomo have now buckled under White House pressure.
No offense, but you spelled “Assahollah” wrong.
What a worthless fat f*
Too bad that is all one in the same!
What your kids took or where they went doesn’t matter. I am happy they had a good teacher. Whether you never saw it happen does not negate the reality that it does happen.
If it doesn’t then pray tell how we have so many scientists totally unfamiliar with actual science? You don’t think AA kicks through scientists just like it does journalists?
Spend some time talking with ex teachers who left the system because they couldn’t deal with this crap.
Did or did not a NY Doctor with “Dr without borders” that went to Africa to treat Ebola. .. come down with Ebola after he came back to NY?....did he not mingle with the general NY public.before he was quarantine?
Because in these densely populated East Coast cities with the close personal contact public transportation system.... it just takes one ..just a little bad luck.. to have a disaster of biblical portions.
..one slip up one mistake. .
Its like people are trying to start a plague. .. this is not the f..ing common cold that if you spread it someone get a case of the sniffles for 3 days.
some numb nuts uses the restroom or blow his nose...and doesn’t perfectly washes hands after
Then shakes yours hand later in the day ...or hang on some subway strap and contaminated it for the next passenger.. or just buying something with paper money ...paper money is filthy
So say its a remote possibility.. .01%?. But it not the common cold.. its ebola.. and if it got a foot hold in NY?.. ugly...
At least Cuomo is honest about which party he belongs to. Christie is a double agent. Conservatives know this, but he still manages to fool a lot of GOP-e voters.
