The Obama administration has been pushing the governors of New York and New Jersey to reverse their decision ordering all medical workers returning from West Africa who had contact with Ebola patients to be quarantined, an administration official said.
But on Sunday both governors, Andrew M. Cuomo of New York and Chris Christie of New Jersey, stood by their decision, saying that the federal guidelines did not go far enough.
At the same time, the first person to be forced into isolation under the new protocols, Kaci Hickox, a nurse returning from Sierra Leone, planned to mount a legal challenge to the quarantine order. Despite having no symptoms, she has been kept under quarantine at a hospital in New Jersey, where she has been confined to a tent equipped with a portable toilet and no shower. On Sunday, she spoke to CNN about the way she has been treated, describing it as inhumane.
A nurse who had worked with Ebola patients in West Africa was placed under quarantine at University Hospital shortly after she landed at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday.
The rapidly escalating events played out both privately, in intense negotiations and phone calls between federal and state officials, as well as publicly in the nurses pointed criticism of the New Jersey governor.
But in that time, two more states Illinois and Florida announced that they were instituting similar policies.
Federal officials made it clear that they do not agree with the governors about the need or effectiveness of a total quarantine for health care workers, though they were careful not to directly criticize the governors themselves.

Ya think? :-)
What a political creep she is! Another Sandra Fluke (or whatever that idiot’s name is) who will show up on Rush tomorrow.
Did you read the nurse saying that quarantine is ‘inhumane’?
Inhumane?
Inconvenient maybe, but not even close to inhumane.
Eggs must be broken to make an omelet. Disruption and chaos are his desired end. LIBs want this so as to tighten their grip.
They want to make ebola...
“Not just for Africa anymore”
It only makes no sense if you ascribe to him and his regime, the grace that they are simply incompetent and naive and they have the best of intentions.
Helping a level 4 contagion spread by refusing quarantine would fit perfectly with those in his regime who think the planet is overpopulated with useless eaters.
I nominate this as the most important quote on Free Republic in the last decade.
Not only is it relevant and timely, it resonates with a high degree of human insight
While I have often sought to expound on the historic importance of the "Ebola Transition", INVAR has captured that in but a few, salient words.
Let's find a way to get that in front over everbody?
They are ham handed NOW, because they were just imposed upon. This is like AIDs which was handled badly at first and then practically eradicated in this country - or at least controlled. They can’t ban the flights because they generally come through Europe. They can only ban visas from Africa which I hope they do.
I hope the states will get much better and much stronger and Obami be damned.
Christie is doing it to "escape" his love in with Obama.
Obama could actually care less. So much for an Ebola Czar.
sounds like Girl Scout camp
except for the portable toilet
” the people are packed face to face when the doors close there is little moving air.”

But lots of wandering hands.
.
He wants people to die. Why is that so hard for people to accept?
We knew that was coming but it came later than expected. The big question is what caused it to take so long and what was obola doing that distracted him for two days?
Name a more reliable way to trigger the process.
An apt description but given that this is the NYT with an “exclusive” I can’t help but suspect a protest-too-much situation.
Thank you for writing it so I don’t have to.
Being president means nothing to him except to be some sort of third world avenger against America. Anyone with a passing knowledge of his upbringing should be able to see it.
The nurse says, “I also want to be treated with compassion and humanity.” This is line with Florence Nightingale’s principles of nursing, one of which is: “The sick person is an individual with individual needs.” But I don’t think quarantine prevents compassion and humanity. Also, another of Nightingale’s principles is: “Prevention is better than cure.”
None of those countries wants Ebola any more that we do. They would ban flights if we lead the way. Obama's desire to harm Americans just seems pathological at this point.
Right after Perry deports the 2+ million illegals in Texas.
