NYT: White House Pressures States to Reverse Mandatory Ebola Quarantine Orders (Hickox to sue)
New York Times ^ | October 26, 2014 | MARC SANTORA and MICHAEL D. SHEAR

The Obama administration has been pushing the governors of New York and New Jersey to reverse their decision ordering all medical workers returning from West Africa who had contact with Ebola patients to be quarantined, an administration official said.

But on Sunday both governors, Andrew M. Cuomo of New York and Chris Christie of New Jersey, stood by their decision saying that the federal guidelines did not go far enough.

At the same time, the first person to be forced into isolation under the new protocols, Kaci Hickox, a nurse returning from Sierra Leone, planned to mount a legal challenge to the quarantine order. Despite having no symptoms, she has been kept under quarantine at a hospital in New Jersey. On Sunday, she spoke to CNN about the way she has been treated, describing it as “inhumane.”

Leftists see things only in terms of ‘discrimination’ - bad - and nondiscrimination - good. Discriminating against people who have visited predominantly black countries is, in their eyes, bad. Unfortunately for liberals, Ebola is the shoal upon which their discrimination/nondiscrimination buffoonery will wreck and be destroyed. Even dumbed down LIV can figure out the benefit of quarantining people who have visited Ebola hotbeds.

“Dr. Seema Yasmin, a Dallas Morning News staff writer, worked with Hickox as a disease detective with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With Yasmin’s help, Hickox wrote this first-person piece exclusively for the News.)”

http://www.utdallas.edu/news/2014/10/10-31232_Public-Health-Professor-Brings-CDC-Experience-Expe_story-wide.html

Yasmin’s teaching and reporting duties have recently expanded to include educating a national and worldwide audience during news coverage of Ebola in Dallas. She has provided expert commentary during interviews with CNN, MSNBC and others, where she has discussed the spread of the disease and how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention manages such outbreaks.

Yasmin served as a disease detective in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the CDC in Atlanta. She earned her medical degree from the University of Cambridge and has worked in Botswana and Kenya as well as England.

Her interest in public health and medicine began before she embarked on her undergraduate degree. She worked as a volunteer for an HIV organization focused on the needs of teenagers affected with the disease.

Everybody here should read your link to the Dallas News where this nurse has described some of her experiences. This is the scariest, and most revealing, line:

I recalled my last night at the Ebola management center in Sierra Leone. I was called in at midnight because a 10-year-old girl was having seizures. I coaxed crushed tablets of Tylenol and an anti-seizure medicine into her mouth as her body jolted in the bed.

It was the hardest night of my life. I watched a young girl die in a tent, away from her family.

OMG! She was directly, intimately, and by hand treating a highly infectious patient in the last moments of that patient's life. If there was ever a health care worker who was exposed to Ebola at its most virulent and infectious, she was it. No wonder she's in quarantine, and THANK GOD SHE IS, even if she was somewhat inconvenienced. She seems to think being an Ebola nurse somehow entitles her to put this whole country at risk. What an incredibly reckless fool.

I wonder? If she does develop Ebola and passes it to another person, can she be sued for damages?

I know if I contracted it and could prove that she was the source - I would sure try to sue her and the CDC.

There are actions like this that make you believe that they really are trying to kill us. I would suspect that the CDC nurse will not be suing in a vacuum and has the approval and support of the DOJ, as well.

Geez, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear Obama WANTS Ebola to spread.

Good thing I know better!

It's her arrogance that floors me. She portrays herself as “selfless” in going over there to treat this girl, but our daughters here in America? She would happily expose them. Her rules, her inconvenience, her life, her ego, her arrogance. The other dam fool in this drama has an arrogance to match, and that's Obama himself.
