Michael Fallon, the defence secretary, has claimed British towns are being “swamped” by immigrants and their residents are “under siege”, in an escalation of the emotive language being used by Tory ministers calling for a renegotiation of the UK’s relationship with Europe.
In terms reminiscent of Margaret Thatcher in the 1970s, he said on Sunday that in some areas of the UK, large numbers of migrant workers and foreign people claiming benefits should be subject to some form of restraint – or risk dominating the local population.
“In some areas of the UK, down the east coast, towns do feel under siege, [with] large numbers of migrant workers and people claiming benefits, and it’s quite right we look at that,” he said.
Fallon made his comments after being forced to deny that Cameron’s efforts to renegotiate the UK’s relationship with Europe were foundering after Angela Merkel spelled out her opposition.
After the prime minister detailed his plan for Britain to regain control over its borders, Merkel told a Sunday newspaper she was opposed to fundamental change.

The UK is 96% NON Muslim. Three parts of the UK have Muslim pops under 1%. Muslims are NOT (by far) the largest ethnic minority. Muslims, for all the noise, do not have any major political, economic or social power.
Whilst the UK DOES have a problem with extreme elements in Islam, this notion the Muslims do or are about to control the UK is frankly hilarious.

Britain (not England, swot up please) is not dead. And frankly Britain has been ‘dead’ for two hundred years: 1815, 1914, 1940, the 70’s......

So what of this article? What of those who feel “swamped”? And please don’t pull out the American liberal trick of “they’re all racists!”
If you read my FR posts, you know that I am always happy to admit that the UK has problems. non Muslim and Muslim. What I and the other UK and Irish freepers oppose is a lot of the hysteria and sometimes outright lies that are posted about the UK, again Islam and non Islam.
I agree with it. I am opposed to mass immigration and have always argued for a points based system. I am for immigration, but openly selective.
The great thing now is that immigrant communities and their children (be it the blacks who came in the 40’s to 60s, or the Asians of the 50s to 70’s) are more and more making their anti-mass immigration voice heard, which will negate the ‘racist’ card.
Reread your post. It doesn’t make sense. You don’t understand demographics. A Country is not the people who prattle on via the Free Republic posts. A country is its kindergarten. Wait for it. The seeds have been sewn. You cannot fight this short of forcefully removing thousands of families; all of whom will claim the “rights of Englishmen.”
96% of the UK is not Muslim. Three parts of the UK have less than 1% Muslims. Even great parts of England have little or no Muslim population (or ethnic at all), contrary to US belief.
I fully get what you say, I think however that Americans are overstating the future numbers of UK Muslims and the supposed future conquest of the UK by that religion.
I am an Anglophile. Historical England is dead.
