Wife’s family owns a farm on the San Juanico Strait just out of Babatngon. She says they were always finding jewelry and cartridge cases and other trinkets in the rice fields. They also found a few old bunkers or foxholes that were caved in. There was an old coconut tree with a shell hole right thru it that her dad finally sawed down due to danger to the house.
Her grandpa was a Philippine Scout and she said he was very proud of that. Said he qualified for a US military pension or something but refused, said he did his work for the Philippines. He did not like the Japanese.
She’s been reading the newspapers you’ve posted and says, “I walked to school past there” or “We used to go there to buy supplies”, etc.
My father's division will be operating in the Carigara Bay region west of Babatngon in a few weeks. Maybe he encountered your wife's family at some point.
