Goodnight Records just sent out the message that "Unfortunately our CMJ show is canceled tonight as The Gutter can't open because of "Unforseen circumstances."" The Gutter is a bowling alley in Williamsburg that is not Brooklyn Bowl, and which matches the description related ot the ebola scare happening in NYC right now, and which has since been 100% confirmed as the bowling alley that Craig Spencer went to. It was not Brooklyn Bowl, which is another bowling alley in the same neighborhood.

Brooklyn Bowl earlier confirmed that no authorities had been in contact with them, and they are open.

Heaven, Big Sleep, Friend Roulette, and Sun Club were the bands scheduled to play the Gutter tonight.

Update: The man's name is Craig Spencer and he has tested positive for ebola.

Almost certainly he sweated, but as I understand, sweat usually doesn’t contain the virus until the Ebola virus disease progresses to the hemorrhagic stage, which has not yet happened. Even if his sweat contaminated the ball surface, it very likely evaporated quickly, leaving the virus dry. Even under ideal conditions, Ebola virus cannot survive more than a few hours of dehydration.

The spray likely killed any virus in the shoes. Even if the virus survived the spray (because of incorrect or incomplete application for example), any sweat in the shoes dried overnight, and the virus thereby died.

On average, each patient in West Africa spreads the virus to two others (and perhaps to asymptomatic persons); hence, the patient load doubles every three weeks or so. Usually these persons so infected contact copious quantities of hemorrhaged fluid (diarrhoea and vomit) or infected corpses.

Ebola virus contaminates sweat primarily through hemorrhaging blood, sometimes in invisible quantities. This patient probably has not reached the stage of any serious contagion risk.

Obama Repeats: You Can’t Get Ebola on a Bus—Day After Bus Quarantined in D.C.
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/brittany-m-hughes/obama-repeats-you-can-t-get-ebola-bus-day-after-bus-quarantined-dc

“I think there are two different parts of that equation,” he continued. “The first is, if you’re a member of the traveling public and are healthy, should you be worried that you might have gotten it by sitting next to someone? And the answer is no.”

“Second, if you are sick and you may have Ebola, should you get on a bus? And the answer to that is also no. You might become ill, you might have a problem that exposes someone around you,” Frieden said.

Another Ebola Risk: It Eats Logic
http://townhall.com/columnists/markdavis/2014/10/10/another-ebola-risk-it-eats-logic-n1903406/page/full

Mark Davis: So because of concern over the fragile economies of West African nations, or the slight that we may inflict to thousands of people who pose no risk— because of those, we need to say, “Hey, just in from Monrovia? Come on in!”

Steve Bucci: The biggest reason is those kind of bans have historically been proven to not do what they promise to do. They don’t give you the level of protection as a society, whether it be a city or a country that it seems intuitively they would.

MD: We absolutely have the ability to say “If you have a Liberian passport, you’re not coming in.” Try to tell me why that’s not a good idea.

SB: Because it will waste assets and it will not work.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I’d rather not bet my life on that...much easier to deny entry or quarantine persons coming from ebolaland.

...”Jogged 3 miles...Took the subway...Bowled...Hitched a ride in Uber.....Guy spread as much sweat all over the place.”....

But THEY said he did a great job at Self quarantine....lolol...nothing they say can be believed.

He ate at a restaurant too...so his spit was on utensils and tableware.

He also went to an area called The Highlands and ate a restaurant.

It think it is curious that they are closing down the hipster bowling alley, but no mention of closing the restaurant, quarantining the Uber car he used, or the L train and A train he took.

They have closed off his apartment, but not the floor it is on or the building. Did he share an elevator or a staircase?

Kelley mentioned new guidelines from the CDC, but the won’t be enacted until Monday, the 27. Why the delay if it will save lives?

I'm not a fan of lawsuits but sometimes they are needed and this is certainly one of those times.

Both the Bowling alley and Uber taxi service should sue this doctor for their lost revenue which will be easily proved in court.

Anyone infected as a result of his actions should also file suit and then sue the airline that brought him back.

In my opinion any commercial airline running flights from Ebola infected areas are absolutely negligent and responsible for any secondary infections from people brought in on these flights.

Who cares what obama says about travel bans, commercial airlines should stop the flights themselves. The airlines run to these destinations for profit and no other reason. They also are completely aware they are putting peoples lives at risk by continuing to fly to and from these destinations.

Good question. Now that the family is cleared, one would think the media would be JUMPING OVER EACH OTHER to get an interview.

Hmmm.

Or that little air machine put the virus in the air, endangering the folks bowling to his left and right.

Where’s the ebola czar

The N 95 should be more than adequate. It is not the individual virus that is airborne, but rather virii in a droplet of secretions. All droplets of secretions should be a good deal larger than 0.3 microns.

Meanwhile the doctors that have been working over in Liberia and the other affected countries that followed the protocols and have seen their fellow doctors still contract Ebola and die from it have no idea how they got it.

True. But it is much more likely elaborate decontamination and taking off PPE is at fault than failure of the N95 mask.
