I believe the literal interpretation is much more in line with both scripture and today’s technology. Who today doesn’t already carry some sort of electronic ID? Drivers license, credit card, debit card, ebt card or employee ID can all be stolen or used without the owner being present. The world will soon see the “wisdom” of combining all into one implantable chip that cannot be used by someone else.

They can force an implantable chip on a person, so that doesn’t fit for me the biblical picture that says it can be refused.

Nevertheless, let me point out that any government wanting to do as you suggest should be opposed with all out combat. That would be terribly despotic. So, in many ways you are on to something.

That chip has been here for quite a while now, almost nobody wants it. Now there is a new customizable “really cool” tattoo that can do the same thing. The tattoo might soon gain acceptance.
