When presidents become unpopular, they are no longer welcome on the campaign trail. They're trapped in Washington, watching their party abandon them.
Now, the same oppressive walls are closing in on President Barack Obama. He is welcome only in the palatial homes of Hollywood stars and hedge-fund billionaires or the well-kept fairways of Martha's Vineyard.
The contrast with 2008 is striking and painful. Six years ago, his acolytes fainted as he read from the teleprompter.
What went wrong? Ideology, say the true believers and their staunchest opponents. The left says he compromised too much, desperate to pass his agenda. The right says he refused to compromise at all, sticking to his socialist agenda as a community organizer long after the voters had rejected it.
That may explain why Berkeley, Calif., and Plano, Texas, lost faith, but it doesn't explain why most of America has.
It's not surprising the public has lost faith. Whether the topic is Ebola, the Islamic State, the IRS, National Security Agency spying, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or a dozen others, the White House spins, the Congress does nothing, and the public's trust in our basic institutions drains away. That's bad news for the president. It's far worse for our country.

My wife and I were discussing this and more. We eventually decided that the most apt parallel ‘thing’ that a normal human being might experience is a personal relationship with another human being. Like marriage or a very close boyfriend/girlfriend relationship that ‘probably’ will develop into marriage.
Such relationships thrive and revolve around ‘trust’. Trusting the other that they will do what they say they will, trusting that they will not ‘cheat’ on the other. Trust that the finances and jointly held property in a marriage will be treated and cared fore in an equitable manner. Those sorts of things...
In the beginning of his presidency, Obama was given leeway and ‘trust’ that he would be a good president and be a good steward to the Government and the executive branch he was elected to.
Sadly it didn’t take very long for at least half of the country to see he wasn’t going to do any such thing. Today nearly six years later we can see that it is far more than half and that he has even squandered and alienated nearly half of his ‘base’ and their trust in him.
Unfortunately we just can’t get a divorce from him and the government. At least not easily... The lasting effects though that I personally see are going to be a much more ‘cynical’ examination of the candidates for president. Hopefully that will be enough to insure that the sort of man he is not be elected to the presidency again.
Otherwise... Well now... many of us can tell tales of some very bitter and hate-filled divorces and all sorts of tricks that were pulled in them to harm the other spouse in the divorce proceedings, and that includes the children who both professed to love and protect.
A divorce from our government probably would end up much the same way...
Think about it, I do... and I see it coming down the track like a freight train that has lost its brakes. The next curve on the tracks ahead just might be the last one before it derails.

Why is losing faith in the infallability of government a bad thing? I hope everyone does and realizes that they are responsible for their own lives.
Congress had to pass a law to fire VA Administrators who without a doubt caused numerous deaths to our veterans in need. How in the hell can a new President fire any union government worker, even Lois Lerner is still on the government dole.
Anyone with any smarts, NEVER had any faith in this POS.

Good questions, I have but one answer. He or she needs to go into the office of President with it firmly stated at the beginning that he/she is in for one term only and that the focus of his/her administration is clean-up of the government. Leave no stone unturned, fire personnel where it can be done. Investigate, arrest and try those others where necessary.
State unequivocally that the goal is removal of those who have committed crimes and reduction of personnel everywhere else is on the table.
As far as foreign commitments go, personally I would remove entirely the concept of foreign aid. If we as a nation have to ‘buy’ our allies then something is clearly wrong.
On another subject the concept of the United States as a ‘world policeman’ needs to be terminated. Also I personally would be ecstatic to have the United Nations find a new ‘home’ elsewhere. Perhaps on an Ocean Liner? It could be home ported out of Liberia?
There is a very simple answer.

The next president needs to reinstate the same program as Eisenhower on the first day of the new administration. Let the illegal aliens know that they are being hunted and will be deported when caught. Very quickly most of the illegal aliens will leave voluntarily before they are caught.
Obama proved that if you refuse to deport illegal aliens then an endless stream of new illegal aliens will flood in across the border. Eisenhower proved that if you actively hunt for and deport illegal aliens then illegal aliens will flood back home.
Also, Obama cannot make any illegals legal with an executive order. All Obama can do is pardon illegal aliens for past crimes. He cannot pardon them for continuing crimes or grant them any legal status.
Yes, these people will always believe in Obama; it part of their overall makeup. Truth is the alien in their lives.
