Cruz dismisses Klain as a 'political operative'

Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday dismissed new Obama administration Ebola czar Ron Klain a "political operative" without health-care experience.

"Mr. Klain is not a doctor, he's not a health care professional, he doesn't have background in these issues," the Texas Republican said on CNN's "State of the Union." "We don't need a White House political operative, which is what Mr. Klain has been. What we need is presidential leadership. The person who needs to be on top of this is the president of the United States."

Klain is a former chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden, and served in the same position for former Vice President Al Gore. Klain is now responsible for coordinating the U.S.'s response to the Ebola outbreak and informing the American public of the administration's efforts.

"We should be less concerned about giving the public the feeling that the government is on top of this and more concerned about the government actually being on top of it," Cruz said.

Klain’s assignment is to protect Obama from the public and not the public from ebola.

Too bad Cruz can only diss the Tsars, not actually dismiss them.

This guy is a hack.

But in general terms I disagree with the idea that a doctor needs to run this. You need someone who is smart, able to manage logistics, and who can manage multiple organizations and determine priorities. You need someone with a command presence and an ability to distill complicated issues into understandable sound bites to keep the natives from getting restless.

The key is to get this contained in Africa. It is contained here. You need it contained in Africa because we need to keep it out of India and China. If it goes eastward, the WHOLE game is over. No one has explained that clearly.

He’s there to threaten the media to shut down the discussion.

Chuck Todd is already droning on about the overreaction to this scare and showing video clips of Republicans worrying about the virus . They’ll soon be moving on to a new subject.

CHUCK TODD: Nobody knows for sure, nobody wants to fully connect to it the second Ebola patient, but it was sort of like the timing of it all starting about Monday or Tuesday. The president’s approval rating actually had been ticking up the last couple of weeks as he was dropping bombs on terrorists, on bad guys in Iraq and Syria. And so his numbers had gone from say up two or three points depending on the state. Just enough it was making Democrats think, okay it’s not as heavy an anchor. Nobody knows for sure if it’s connected to the second ebola patient but sort of like the timing is a little bit more than coincidence I think, his numbers are trending down again.

Yup. He's not managing the response to the virus, he's managing the spin.

Thanks for the post! Very interesting. I’m watching him now. This show is awful - what’s with the walking around and wacky camera angles??!

I wonder how much he gets paid for being nothing more than a mere political hack.

So Klain is the guy who does the actual “work” while the boss is out golfing on company time?
