I'm considering getting one of these for daily carry.
In the extremely unlikely chance that a FReeper owns one, I'd like their opinions and advice...
“Give me a suggestion for a good, light, compact American gun with fight ending stopping power.”
There’s no “one size fits all” firearm that’s just right for all occasions. However, the Springfield XDs .45 ACP might come close to answering your needs as stated:

That Ruger in 9mm looks like a winner to me. Thanks.
Yeah, it’s just like the old Ford v Chevy debate. Nobody ever wins.
How do you intend to carry it?
What is your normal grouping at 7 yards with your favorite handgun?
Sure they do! The loser just doesn't know it ;)
That 75 Short rail looks like a Hi Power. Good looking gun.
Dunno, probably small of the back. I'd rather lose a butt cheek than anything vital if I screw up in the heat of the moment!

I don't get near enough practice with my 1911 A1, maybe 4"?
Alas! I’m in California.
Can you not have a small pistola?
Okay, you can shoot well enough to keep from being an unintentional hazard to nuns, orphans, and innocent bystanders. But if you can't get to the range that much you need to stay away from stuff with bells and whistles. That means either a revolver, or something striker fired.

Small of the back means you're not going to have a hip to support the weight, so you might want to think polymer or alloy instead of steel. Don't go too light though; weight is inversely proportional to controllability, which becomes even more important if you go for a .40 as most of them are .40 barrels stuffed into 9mm frames.
Not the Ruger LCP.
Odd...why not?
Uh huh, and if you use a modern .45 ACP how do you beat it's expansion? If you want to stop someone, sometimes bigger is better, though I am a stick in the mud with a Browning Hi Power in 9mm, old design that can handle just about anything.
20 rounds rapid at the 10 yard range today
Just picked up a Hi-Point 9mm this week.
The trigger pull is crap. In a .380 I carry a 1922 Colt Pocket Hammerless.
Like the one Patton had.
I don’t think the trigger on the Ruger LCP is crap. In fact I can hit targets out to 50 yards with it, no problem. I think it shoots exactly the way I want it to.
Maybe your finger is crap?
Maybe, but after 40 years of competitive shooting it’s just jaded. I guess it’s a matter of taste.
The LCP is not on commiefornia’s approved firearms list. The safety IIRC.
You must be assuming that you get no expansion from .45. I can assure you that there is .45 ammo that expands quite a lot, way bigger than 9mm.
