As a rule, one should not panic at whatever crisis has momentarily fixed the attention of cable news producers. But the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which has migrated to both Europe and America, may be the exception that proves the rule. There are at least six reasons that a controlled, informed panic might be in order.

(2) General infection rates are terrifying, too. In epidemiology, you measure the R0, or reproduction number of a virus; that is, how many new infections each infected person causes. When R0 is greater than 1, the virus is spreading through a population. When its below 1, the contamination is receding. In September the World Health Organizations Ebola Response Team estimated the R0 to be at 1.71 in Guinea and 2.02 in Sierra Leone. Since then, it seems to have risen so that the average in West Africa is about 2.0. In September the WHO estimated that by October 20, there would be 3,000 total cases in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. As of October 7, the count was 8,376.

well,if the islamist want to infect us, then they should be prepared to be infected right back...then again, that would be if we actually had an American govt.....
The author is misinformed. Duncan's spread was 2 (or more) because he had a huge overkill staff of 70 people caring from him who were inadequately protected. The average Liberian spread is 2.0 because they transport dying victims and corpses in taxis, wash the dead at home and perform home burials which obviously raises the average. The two numbers are not comparable.
Couple of Ebola patients and you can easily say goodbye to the Gaza Strip or the 'Palestinian Problem...'
Sort of how Islamics handle their dead as well, well, except it doesn't look like Liberians parade their dead through crowded streets on the way to the funeral...
I’ll cut to the chase.
The reason that counts is The Usurper now has the power to kill us very quickly. Those who don’t get the disease will be left with a nation in shambles and one that already has no borders.
Obama is the number one danger to all America, but in a more immediate and literally deadly way than before.
The CDCs Friedenwho is an Obama appointeehas been almost comically oafish. On September 30, -Frieden declared, Were stopping it in its tracks in this country. On October 13, he said, Were concerned, and unfortunately would not be surprised if we did see additional cases. The next day he admitted that the CDC hadnt taken the first infection seriously enough: I wish we had put a team like this on the ground the day the patient, the first patient, was diagnosed, he said. That might have prevented this infection. But we will do that from today onward with any case, anywhere in the U.S. . . . We could have sent a more robust hospital infection-control team and been more hands-on with the hospital from Day One.
I don't need no stinkin' reason:
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
See?
5 reasons
O B A M A
Reason 7
These people are in charge in descending order.
Ron Klain
Susan Rice
Barack Obola
If Pham and the other nurse were infected wearing full cover gear for droplet protection which is done if the virus requires contact with body fluids to infect AND they got it anyway, then started wearing respirators which is for AIRBORNE protocol, then the virus is, by definition, airborne.
IF a breach in droplet protocol caused infection, there is no other logical conclusion.
Obama needs to close down the border, stop flights and really quarantine exposed individuals or he should be arrested by the military and thrown in prison.
Yep
Psalm 91 (King James Version)
1. He that dwells in the secret place of the most High [a believer his life is hid in Christ] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3. Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4. He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings shall you trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5. You shall not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flies by day; nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness; nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.
6. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come near thee. Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked.
7. Because you have made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, your habitation, there shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.
8. For he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all thy ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
9. You shall tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon you will trample under your feet.
10. Because he has set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known my name.
11. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
12. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
My guess is that the breathing masks may protect the airways but the hood can’t protect the eyes because it is not sealed and breathing inside that hood would draw unfiltered air into it. IMO anything less than a pressurized suit is risky for a late stage patient.
According to the news reports, they were wearing a mask, a gown, gloves, and a face shield. No head/hair or shoe protection.
That's the only reason I needed to hear.
I suppose they're now issued masks, it was different back then (40+ years ago).
1 reason not to panic - history.
Really people. Freaking out about 2 people in a nation of 311 million getting ebola is, quite frankly, stupid.
