President Barack Obama urged Americans on Saturday not to succumb to hysteria about Ebola, even as he warned that "we may see more" cases and said fighting the deadly virus would require citizens, government leaders, and the media to pitch in.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama also pushed back against calls for the U.S. to institute a travel ban. Lawmakers have called it a common-sense step to prevent more people with Ebola from entering the U.S., but Obama said such a ban would only hamper aid efforts and screening measures.
"Trying to seal off an entire region of the world — if that were even possible — could actually make the situation worse," Obama said. [Who said anything about sealing off the region? How about just keeping them out of the country?]
"Fighting this disease will take time," Obama said. "Before this is over, we may see more isolated cases here in America. But we know how to wage this fight." [Mean like ISIS? Healthcare?]

Judicial Watch has learned that the Obama administration is actively formulating plans to admit Ebola-infected non-U.S. citizens into the United States for treatment. Specifically, the goal of the administration is to bring Ebola patients into the United States for treatment within the first days of diagnosis.
It is unclear who would bear the high costs of transporting and treating non-citizen Ebola patients. The plans include special waivers of laws and regulations that ban the admission of non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola.
One source tells us that the Obama administration is keeping this plan secret from Congress. The source is concerned that the proposal is illegal; endangers the public health and welfare; and should require the approval of Congress.

What am I missing?
Granted we can’t completely seal off a part of the world. But, isolating a disease as much as we can, is one key way of stopping the spread of disease. What am I missing?
And why are so many liberals parroting the line that a travel ban makes it harder to fight Ebola in Africa???? How do liberals view this subject? What are the liberal talking points???
We wouldn't want any precedent setting action keeping immigrants out would we.
If we stop immigration from West Africa, then later if/when ebola does make it to Central America….well you can figure the rest out.
Obama has no idea what’s going to happen to the Democrats and the economy of our nation if their is even a single new “index” case arriving from West Africa. The level of stupidity to not understand this is beyond my imagination.
I saw a thread here on Free Republic, indicating Obama wants to bring Ebola patients to be treated in America. Have not heard that in the MSM. But you wonder, is such a plan being contemplated????
Ebola outbreaks have happened in the past. And those epidemics subsided. How did the disease outbreaks run their course in the past? What was done? Are we doing those things now? And why didn’t Ebola spread to other parts of the world during previous outbreaks?
And, of course, if he hadn’t been allowed in the country, 1000 people wouldn’t be under “observation” fro Ebola.
I’ll go out on a rather secure limb and guess you already know the answers to those questions.

I agree with the Pentagon general... if Ebola gets into Latin America there will be a unstoppable exodus of infected illegal aliens into the US across our wide open southern border. Obama may not only give us economic collapse, but bring us pestilence like hasn’t been seen since the time of the Black Plague.

Didn’t you know that, “Fighting Ebola is hard.” That’s what the brilliant Thomas Frieden told us. I wondered why they didn’t put Dr. on his name... reason? He lost his license. Really. It is the truth. Being a political Commissar is more important to him than that.
Please call congress and tell them that we must be deadly serious about containing Ebola by strict quarantine within the United States and from infected nations. This is our right and our duty and it is THEIR duty to protect US.

I believe decisive response is urgent because you can’t put this Ebola genie back in the bottle once it gets out. It is a fire, it consumes all the fuel it can get and the fuel is people. The only way to stop a fire is to block it from the fuel or cool it with water. A vaccine or medicine to treat Ebola would be the water and we don’t have reliable, enough or any.
Every possible measure must be taken to stop the spread before draconian measures are imposed. What is being done now is sloppy. We are walking a dangerous road. The threat is blossoming by the day if not hour. Almost every hour there is some new Ebola development and none of them are good. This is a serious and potentially deadly event. Unchecked it could destroy or weaken the United States and facilitate our destruction by others. It has that potential for every country and that is why so many are responding with such strict quarantines. These consequences, no matter how small the probabilities, demand a full effort and significant response.
Ebola is being spread here in the United States right now. First Texas, then Ohio then? Terror is an excellent weapon. It disrupts, confuses, paralyzes and destroys a society. Many others and we on FR have speculated that terrorists may spread Ebola. How do you that remember 9/11 feel right now compared to what you felt then? Do you want to gather your loved ones near you to protect them? I do. Even more than I did on September 11, 2001! Isn’t this passive response by this administration accomplishing the very same things a terrorist would want?
When something is being done that makes as little sense as what Obama is doing there has to be some other reason. I leave it to you dear reader to draw your own conclusions as to the reasons.
What is happening now is insane. It makes no sense at all. For example the head of CDC says: “Stopping travel from Africa won’t do any good because you have to get people into Africa to fight Ebola.” “You can’t get Ebola from an infected person on a bus but an infected person should never be on a bus because he can infect others.” “Blocking travel from infected countries would damage their fragile economies.” What about ours? What about our safety? What about resources we have paid for that should be protecting us?
Even the most despotic dictatorship in Africa has acted to protect his nation by strict quarantine and stopping travel from infected countries. Even CDC, the UN and WHO advocate and credit strict quarantine for nipping the spread of Ebola in the bud at the source in places like Senegal and Nigeria where both have had faster and more successful outbreak controls than we have had here. 35 countries have stopped travel of people from infected West African countries. It is so obvious even a child could understand it so why is it OK for people from infected countries to travel here?
