Offshore Fraudster had links to offshore fund run by VP Biden's relatives

(Reuters) – A fund of offshore hedge funds run by two members of VP Joe Biden's family was marketed exclusively by offshore firms controlled by Texas financier Allen Stanford, charged by regulators with an $8 billion fraud, the Wall Street Journal said.

The Bidens $50 million fund was jointly branded between the Bidens' Paradigm Global Advisors LLC and the offshore Stanford Financial Group entity headquartered in Antigua, and was known as the Paradigm Stanford Capital Management Core Alternative Fund, the paper said. Stanford-related offshore companies marketed the Biden fund to investors and also invested about $2.7 million of their own money in the fund, the paper said, citing a lawyer for Paradigm.

Paradigm Global Advisors is owned through a holding company by the vice president Biden's son, Hunter, and Joe Biden's brother, James, according to the WSJ. Paradigm's attorney, Marc LoPresti, who represents Hunter Biden and James Biden, as well as Paradigm, told the paper he did not know which Stanford entity invested the roughly $2.7 million. Convicted con man R. Allen Stanford used offshore corporate money to subsidize the Democratic convention in Denver. A video posted on the firm's web-site shows Stanford, being hugged by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and praised by former President Bill Clinton for helping to finance a Democrat convention-related forum and party put on by the National Democratic Institute.

"I would like to thank the Stanford Financial Group for helping to underwrite this," Clinton said to the crowd at the event. Stanford Financial was listed as the "lead benefactor" for the gathering, and Stanford was permitted to address the audience of several hundred.

The SEC charged yesterday that Stanford was running a fraudulent offshore investment scheme that may have bilked customers out of as much as $8 billion. Over the last decade, Stanford has spent more than $7 million on lobbyists and campaign contributions to Washington politics in both parties, although the vast majority of the money has gone to Democrats.

I was for Romney in 2012. Frankly now I am against Romney engaging in any further messing around with the political system (unless he comes out for repatriating American industry from China - in which case I am ENTHUSIASTICALLY for him)

Obama Fundraiser Pushed Solyndra Deal From Inside

An elite Obama fundraiser hired to help oversee the administration’s energy loan program pushed and prodded career Department of Energy officials to move faster in approving a loan guarantee for Solyndra, even as his wife’s law firm was representing the California solar company, according to internal emails made public late Friday.

“How hard is this? What is he waiting for?” wrote Steven J. Spinner, a high-tech consultant and energy investor who raised at least $500,000 for the candidate before being appointed to a key job helping oversee the energy loan guarantee program. “I have OVP [the Office of the Vice President] and WH [the White House] breathing down my neck on this.”

The $535 million loan to Solyndra was ultimately approved in 2009 and for months was touted by President Obama as a model of his efforts to create new jobs in the emerging field of clean energy. But in late August, the company abruptly shut its doors and days later declared it was filing for bankruptcy. Now the loan is the subject of multiple investigations, by Congress and by the Department of Justice.

In one of the new emails shared with ABC News and other news outlets Friday, the White House appears to be bracing for the political fallout — one high ranking energy official in the White House warns shortly before Solyndra’s bankruptcy, on Aug. 26, that what’s coming is a “s___ show” and “a mess.”

In another e-mail chain, Aditya Kumar, an aide to then Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Vice President Biden, wrote to Spinner on August 19, 2009 to ask about concerns that had been raised about Solyndra’s future. “Folks here want to know what the funding community thinks of the Solyndra deal, and whether there are any concerns there,” wrote Kumar.

Spinner responded by saying he knew of no such concerns. He later forwarded a list of the private investors in the company, including a brief bio of George Kaiser, another Obama fundraiser who was one of the company’s major investors.

Chicago Mayor and former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel may have forgotten Solyndra, but the ongoing scandal over the failed solar company and its $535 million Department of Energy loan guarantee hasn’t forgotten him.

Despite Emanuel’s earlier amnesia regarding his involvement in the Solyndra transaction, emails released by the White House Friday at the request of congressional investigators suggest Emanuel had a personal hand in crafting the White House’s Solyndra strategy, including the President’s May 2010 visit to the solar panel factory.

“[Klain] has talked to Rahm about this and feels Rahm wants this too (barring any concerns)—POTUS’s involvement was Rahm’s idea,’ Aditya Kumar, a White House director of special projects, wrote in an August 2009 email to other officials.

Insiders raised alarms, too. Obama donor and venture capitalist Steve Westly wrote to senior White House aide Valerie Jarrett in May and said “many of us believe the company’s cost structure will make it difficult for them to survive long term.” Ms. Jarrett wrote to Vice President Joe Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, who contacted the Department of Energy. But DOE expressed confidence in Solyndra, with one official noting that “we believe the company is okay in the medium term, but will need some help of one kind or another down the road.”

Instead of launching a more serious inquiry, Mr. Klain supported a pending Presidential visit to Solyndra’s factory, advising Ms. Jarrett of “risk factors” but adding that “it looks like it is OK to me, but if you feel otherwise, let me know.” Ms. Jarrett replied “I’m comfortable if you’re comfortable,” and Mr. Klain responded, “The reality is that if POTUS visited 10 such places over the next 10 months, probably a few will be belly-up by election day 2012—but that to me is the reality of saying that we want to help promote cutting edge, new economy industries.”

Monica Medina currently is the Principal Deputy Undersecretary for Oceans and Atmosphere of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Ms. Medina also serves as the U.S. Commissioner to the International Whaling Commission.

I believe decisive response is urgent because you can’t put this Ebola genie back in the bottle once it gets out. It is a fire, it consumes all the fuel it can get and the fuel is people. The only way to stop a fire is to block it from the fuel or cool it with water. A vaccine or medicine to treat Ebola would be the water and we don’t have reliable, enough or any.

Every possible measure must be taken to stop the spread before draconian measures are imposed. What is being done now is sloppy. We are walking a dangerous road. The threat is blossoming by the day if not hour. Almost every hour there is some new Ebola development and none of them are good. This is a serious and potentially deadly event. Unchecked it could destroy or weaken the United States and facilitate our destruction by others. It has that potential for every country and that is why so many are responding with such strict quarantines. These consequences, no matter how small the probabilities, demand a full effort and significant response.

Ebola is being spread here in the United States right now. First Texas, then Ohio then? Terror is an excellent weapon. It disrupts, confuses, paralyzes and destroys a society. Many others and we on FR have speculated that terrorists may spread Ebola. How do you that remember 9/11 feel right now compared to what you felt then? Do you want to gather your loved ones near you to protect them? I do. Even more than I did on September 11, 2001! Isn’t this passive response by this administration accomplishing the very same things a terrorist would want?
When something is being done that makes as little sense as what Obama is doing there has to be some other reason. I leave it to you dear reader to draw your own conclusions as to the reasons.
What is happening now is insane. It makes no sense at all. For example the head of CDC says: “Stopping travel from Africa won’t do any good because you have to get people into Africa to fight Ebola.” “You can’t get Ebola from an infected person on a bus but an infected person should never be on a bus because he can infect others.” “Blocking travel from infected countries would damage their fragile economies.” What about ours? What about our safety? What about resources we have paid for that should be protecting us?

Even the most despotic dictatorship in Africa has acted to protect his nation by strict quarantine and stopping travel from infected countries. Even CDC, the UN and WHO advocate and credit strict quarantine for nipping the spread of Ebola in the bud at the source in places like Senegal and Nigeria where both have had faster and more successful outbreak controls than we have had here. 35 countries have stopped travel of people from infected West African countries. It is so obvious even a child could understand it so why is it OK for people from infected countries to travel here?
