Friend, how do you think the Left got to where they are today? They did so through incrementalism, over a period of many decades. In the 1960's, had they tried to get all of their agenda implemented at once, the American voter would have rejected them completely. The Left, understanding the art of politics better than those on the right, adapted the strategy of incrementalism: take what you can get now and come back in two years to get more. It has worked terrifically well for them. Now, they have almost full control of everything... the light of liberty/patriotism is flickering, nearly extinguished.
What I am saying is that we on the right need to understand the concept on incrementalism, and use it to our advantage too. We are never going to get 100% of what we want right away (just as it was with the Left in the 1960's). We need to chip away. Take what we can get now (e.g. vote for a candidate who is with us most of the time to remove a politican who is against us 100% of the time) and come back in two years for more.

We purists are willing to go down to 80% of what we want. How low is acceptable to you before we are no longer conservative at all?

Dan you have the post of the day and have expressed what many on our side has been unable to do succinctly...thank you

We were chipping away with Reagan, but Reagan himself made the fatal mistake, having Bush for his VP. The chipping away ended when he left office.

We need to chip away. Take what we can get now (e.g. vote for a candidate who is with us most of the time to remove a politican who is against us 100% of the time) and come back in two years for more. That all makes sense, but even in cases where the Republican Party has control I don't see any "chipping away" going on.
The ObamaCare/budget debacle of late 2013 -- when Ted Cruz stood up with his infamous filibuster in the U.S. Senate, only to be roundly criticized by other Republicans -- spoke volumes about what we're up against in terms of dealing with traitors within the GOP.
