America and its coalition partners executing air strikes in Iraq and Syria currently enjoy total dominance in the skies over the so-called Islamic State. That may soon change.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a London-based monitoring group which maintains contacts with an extensive network of sources on the ground in Iraq and Syria, contends that ISIS fighters recently took control of three MiG fighter jets. Whats more, ISIS plans on using them.
The SOHR report also claims that the group has the support of defected former Iraqi military officers which are training ISIS fighters on how to fly the jets.
SOHRs sources say jets have been seen flying low over Syrias province, reports CBS News correspondent Holly Williams, a CBS News report read. ISIS did overrun and seize control of the al-Jarrah air base in rural Aleppo, but it isnt clear how long ago.(continued)

They might be able to fly the planes but their life expectancy will be very low.
It won’t change our dominance, those ISIS aircraft will only be targets and easy ones at that.
For every hour those jets are in the air, they require maybe a dozen hours of maintenance. There is no way ISIS is so well equiped and competant they can keep a jet flying.
Swell. Now ISIS is airborne. They only need to learn how to take off.
I wonder if they know how to mount/load and arm ordinance.
Exactly. Our Zoomies are going to love this. Nothing like a little air to air practice in between bombing and strafing runs.
“There is no way ISIS is so well equiped and competant they can keep a jet flying.”
They are likely to use the jets on suicide missions. A really fast fighter bend on a kamikaze mission might penetrate even well protected airspace.
Our Air Force should let those pilots who didn’t make “Ace” in the Gulf Wars, go first.
“They might be able to fly the planes but their life expectancy will be very low.”
Our Navy Air Jocks over Iraq, are praying, “Oh Lord, make my day and send a few of these losers after me and my wing man! Amen!”
Somehow, I'm getting a mental image of bombs hanging on the wing, with cell phones duct-taped to them, connected to wires trailing out of the fuse socket.
It’d be a money maker. :)
OMG! A MIG-21! How will the F-22 survive?
(visualization suggestion :^)
There was a Star Trek episode where some stupid Aliens hijacked Jordy. They needed someone smart to run their systems.
And the ISIS aircraft will be hidden out of sight and takeoffs and landings will be hidden from our satellites by secret ISIS Phantom Technology.
Sure.
Romulen cloaking device?
No one fancied that our passenger airliners would be hijacked and flown into business skyscrapers.
LOL. Extremely low.
