As best-selling novelist John Grisham prepares to publish his new legal thriller, he argues America's prison system has run out of control.
America is wrongly jailing far too many people for viewing child pornography, the best-selling legal novelist John Grisham has told The Telegraph in a wide-ranging attack on the US judicial system and the country's sky-high prison rates.
Mr Grisham, 59, argued America's judges had "gone crazy" over the past 30 years, locking up far too many people, from white collar criminals like the businesswoman Martha Stewart, to black teenagers on minor drugs charges and - he added - those who had viewed child porn online.
"We have prisons now filled with guys my age. Sixty-year-old white men in prison who've never harmed anybody, would never touch a child," he said in an exclusive interview to promote his latest novel Gray Mountain which is published next week....

He’s right. Some are cops looking for pedophiles.
I am starting to miss the harsh treatment Moses exacted on those animals.
He is right about one thing, those pervs don’t belong in jail.
I’ll let y’all conclude where they do belong.
Grisham is a pedophile who has watched child porn. That is my comment.
Looking at pictures should not be a crime.
Making pictures of horrible crimes is a horrible crime.
“But I’m also concerned about how easy it is to plant something on someone’s computer for political or other nefarious purposes.”
Type in any number of legitimate phrases into google such as “excited puppies” and images you don’t want of things like child porn may appear. Anything that appears on your screen is now on your computer. We have seen cases where that has happened and the police claim the person was downloading child porn.
John Grisham, is that you?
These vile pigs wouldn’t be producing this abhorrent photos and films if there was no interest. Those who are viewing the material are participating in the crime.
And men who beat their wives are not murderers. /s
What the hell is he thinking...
No real surprise. Grisham loves criminals of most stripes, and he may also have a personal interest.
Of note, by far the largest category of offenses, “Drug offenses”, is one that the Federal government has zero Constitutional authority to be regulating, much less criminalizing. Also, the second largest category “Weapons, Explosives, Arson” surely includes a large number of inmates jailed for simply exercising their 2nd Amendment guaranteed rights.
Yeah, people should read the front page before they make a post.

If you’re putting eyes on it, it has your interest. Don’t pretend otherwise, John.
Instead of searching how about just reading?
Click news and just pull down through the stories.
That’s what I do. Saw your post, clicked back, pulled down a few more stories and saw the apology.
On big stories you can almost see the time zone change as people wake up, see the story somewhere and just have to post it. You’ll have three or four posts on the same story followed each hour by three or four more.
I’ll bet a few more will post it before the day is out.
:)
Grisham abandoned his Mississippi roots and moved to a palatial estate in Charlottesville, VA, now home of wealthy Democrat liberals who have infested that beautiful area. He is now quite the dilettante, big supporter of leftists, and probably felt he needs to say something to keep at the leading edge of the latest “cause”. I will never buy one of the man’s books.
Now that the perverts are in charge of running several levels of government, I do not want to empower them to wrongfully convict others for being perverts.
You watch it, you support it, and you are responsible for what happens to the children.
“Casual viewers” and “casual users” make the distributors viable, and are enablers of perverse crime. Nothing innocent about them.
