Houstons power-mad Mayor Annise Parker has backtracked on those subpoenas that she had the city issue to five city pastors, at taxpayer expense.
The mayor made the move as Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sent a letter to Parker asking that she withdraw the subpoenas immediately.
Attorney General Greg Abbott Asks Houston City Attorney to Withdraw Subpoenas Seeking Sermons, Other Documents from Houston-area PastorsAUSTIN Attorney General Abbott today asked that the Houston City Attorney to immediately withdraw the subpoenas sent last month to several Houston-area pastors seeking sermons, notes and other information.
In his letter to the city attorney, Attorney General Abbott said, Whether you intend it to be so or not, your action is a direct assault on the religious liberty guaranteed by the First Amendment. The people of Houston and their religious leaders must be absolutely secure in the knowledge that their religious affairs are beyond the reach of the government.
`
The City Attorney threw his own legal staff under the bus yesterday. He said (after boasting of how broad it was) that he wouldn’t have have drafted it that broadly.
Now, don't try this trick at the local mosque.
how many mosques received a subpoena?
Slimy liberal fascist...

They don’t need to let this slide either, it needs to be pursued and any appropriate action taken against these scumbags. Set a president that it will not be tollerated.
Why do you suppose that similar strategies are NOT attempted in a mosque? Can you imagine the sort of push-back the local “religion of peace” would direct at the authorities who would attempt such a thing?
There would be politicians’ and policemen’s heads on pikes ringing the City Hall. And nobody would have the fortitude to try to root the perps out.
The bearded men with burning eyes tend to intimidate everybody.
And that’s the nicest thing one can say about these people. They would have no qualms about building re-education camps for those who dare to disagree with them.

The left doesn’t respect the constitution.
These perverts are insufferable. Their fascism must be confronted and shoved back into their usually smug faces. These degenerates are beyond the pall in their abuse of “power”.
This attempt failed, but it does show where this country is headed. The intolerance of the “tolerance brigades” can’t put up with any dissent and Christian churches that believe Scripture is God’s inerrant word have to be destroyed. The leftists are winning and we still don’t have a real conservative leading the GOP to fight this tyranny.
Enemy operatives would not be welcomed at my Latin Mass, either. I personally would serve as the "welcoming committee".

No, it was written by an outside attorney doing pro bono work per other postings on FR. I’ve been asking why an outside attorney would be doing free work for the city. Although one freeper said it was in order to get bond work from the city, I’m inclined to suspect that a gay rights group volunteered to do in order to advance their agenda.
They won’t give up, just change tactics
Now is the time for people to take a stand, before it is too late.
The mayor’s statement implies that her problem with the subpoenas is simply how they’re expressed, not with the principle behind them. Improving the wording and trying again is not the same thing as dropping the entire stupid, fascist project. She needs to do the latter, but the smart money will be on the former.
