Dolan, during an appearance on CBS This Morning on Wednesday, said the Vatican report released Monday stating that homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community is just a first draft that needs some major reworking.
The archbishop of New York tamped down the importance of a groundbreaking Vatican declaration that signaled a new openness toward same-sex couples.
All of this is almost like antipasto to help the holy father arrive at a fresh, new way to teach the timeless teaching on marriage and family, Dolan said in an interview with CBS This Morning on Wednesday, dismissing reports that the Vatican which has historically denounced homosexuality was in turmoil over the report.
I know there is remarkable unanimity and enthusiasm in backing the holy fathers attempt to present the teaching of the church in a fresh, exciting, enchanting new way . . . but there might be some good, deep discussion on the way that is being expressed, Dolan said.
Gay rights groups have hailed the report, which was a snapshot of closed-door meetings between Pope Francis and the Catholic Churchs highest-ranking bishops, cardinals and priests as they develop ways to modernize the churchs teachings.

As I read the Catechism, co-habitation is a mortal sin. So is sex with someone of the same sex. Mortal is mortal. Lots of people running around having sex outside of marriage. I understand the whole “gay” agenda thing but the basic stuff is don’t have sex with someone who is the same sex and don’t have sex outside of marriage.
This reminds me of the Democrat Party, which will release statements with several viewpoints, hoping those on the plantation will gravitate to the statement they agree with.
God Himself obliterated Sodom and Gomorrah for these sins and the gay lobby of the Roman Catholic Church would have Catholics believe that God has now changed His mind.
The problem with this language is that it strongly suggests (and other language in the document appears to be even more explicit) that there is a “homosexual charism,” some gift unique to homosexuality that these individuals bring to the Church.
It would have been better to say, “...individuals who bear the cross of the objective disorder of a homosexual orientation nonetheless have gifts and qualities that pertain to them as human persons, apart from their sexual orientation, to give to the Christian community.”
Which is a truism, as we all have inclinations toward sin, but God leaves none of his beloved human creatures without some worthwhile gifts and attributes.
AIDS, the gift that keeps on giving.
You have hit the nail on the head. The other problem is that it accepts the “gay” movement’s contention that homosexuality defines the individual and then becomes his new identity.
Treating them as a separate group or class in the Church confirms this...while all the time, they are what everybody else is, human beings made in the Image and Likeness of God, called to follow the Lord (and His Law) and to accept individual responsibility for their acceptance of the calling.
Homosexuals who are chaste and remain that way (and don’t go about announcing it) are welcome as anyone else. So are formerly active homosexuals who have repented and are trying to live by God’s law. But there are many who want to continue the behavior and still be accepted. We may pray for them, but we will not accept them.
HOMOSEXUAL, because there’s nothing GAY about it.
