It all depends on the meaning of "serious". If you're a political figure with a private 747 and a hermetically sealed Virginia redoubt with a few years' food, then no, this isn't serious. If you happen to be an ER nurse and the patient you've just admitted is shooting blood from every orifice, then yeah, it's serious.

So I re-read Poe's Masque of the Red Death, thinking of Washington DC in terms of the castle, and Dear Leader in the role of the prince, shut up with his cronies against the onslaught of what the rest of his country is enduring. From the Wiki page: The disease called the Red Death is fictitious. Poe describes it as causing "sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores" leading to death within half an hour.

Oh, really? Now isn't that cheery? I'll leave you with Poe's last line: And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

At the moment I sort of wish he hadn't written that...

“Obama confident the US won’t see “serious outbreak” of Ebola”

That confirms it, folks.
WE ARE SCREWED.....

I suspect that Obama doesn’t understand what exponential growth is.

If the jug-eared jackass didn’t address flight restrictions from West Africa or stronger border security, then he really isn’t serious about containing Ebola. Whatever else he has to say isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.

This chrisis is one he will not pass up. It may even allow him to enact martial law. Lets hope that Washington DC gets most of the cases.

And he offered assurance tonight that a “serious outbreak” remains extremely unlikely.

Wait a minute...a month ago, he said:

First and foremost, I want the American people to know that our experts, here at the CDC and across our government, agree that the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low. We’ve been taking the necessary precautions, including working with countries in West Africa to increase screening at airports so that someone with the virus doesn’t get on a plane for the United States. In the unlikely event that someone with Ebola does reach our shores, we’ve taken new measures so that we’re prepared here at home. We’re working to help flight crews identify people who are sick, and more labs across our country now have the capacity to quickly test for the virus. We’re working with hospitals to make sure that they are prepared, and to ensure that our doctors, our nurses and our medical staff are trained, are ready, and are able to deal with a possible case safely.
So...we've upgraded "outbreak unlikely" to "serious outbreak unlikely"? And that bit about "we're prepared" and details thereof, well, so far not so much.

What a relief. I’m glad the current outbreak isnt serious. I’m sure the two nurses with ebola currently will be glad to hear its not serious as well...

Now I know we are {expletived}. bammy lies all the time. The only things he doesn’t lie about are the things he doesn’t know enough about to lie about. If he says it’s fine, we are headed for a meltdown. I am no-s**t starting to lay in extra food and water tomorrow.

Once the serious outbreak starts building steam, Obama will assure Americans that a majority of us will survive.
