NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The man who killed "Hee Haw" star and Grand Ole Opry performer David "Stringbean" Akeman and his wife, Estelle, four decades ago has been granted parole.
Melissa McDonald with the Tennessee Board of Parole told News 2 the board voted Wednesday morning to grant John Brown parole.
Brown has served 40 years of his 198-year sentence for killing the Akemans in 1973 as they returned to their home following a performance at the Opry.

What the hell. The b@t@rd killed his wife too.
...murderers should not be paroled to go about and live in the free world.
When I go visit my parents I am subjected to Molly B’s Polka on Saturday evenings.
I like polka music because it reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would blast polka music while baking every other Sunday. Just hearing it makes my mouth water thinking of the smell of fresh-baked rolls!
I had a great aunt who likewise lived thru the Great Depression. She and her husband lost everything when FDR closed their bank and it never reopened.
Thus she never again trusted banks. Kept cash hidden away in corners and cubbies all over her apartment. When she passed away my mom and my grandmother found a very substantial sum hidden under the mattress, in a tea kettle, under a loose floor board, etc. etc.
True. But I would expect that at least half the sentence should be served. 198 years divided by 2 equals 99 years.
Seems to me that he's got a ways to go yet.
A few generations ago, both would have likely been executed. You can't convince me that there is not a deterrent factor in capitol punishment.
Stringbean was also an excellent banjo player.
Local TV stations quit hiring people who spoke English years ago. They only hire blondes now.

No kidding. Well, at least journalism school drop-outs always have a fallback.
Local TV news.
Thanks
When I was young I was shocked,SHOCKED! to find out Opry stars did not dress all the time the way they did on stage.
Many of the old Opry stars are buried at the cemetery up the road from THE HERMETAGE in Old Hickory, Tn. Some of my kin are also buried there.
They seem to think he has reformed. He’s a chaplain now.
Saves us money I guess.
even a 198-year sentence doesn’t keep them in prison
messed up!
Ohhh, you got me with that one. LOL.
Good to hear this.
They still are, at least on my TV. I've got quite a few Hee-Haw episodes on DVD. And then there's Youtube.
At the time, the Hee Haw girls were the sexiest woman on TV. |
You got THAT right.
Ask me (Or Laz) We likes 'em BIG!
If you remember Hee Haw at all, you’ll remember the scarecrow in the field where they got up from behind hay bales to tell one-liners.
He was the scarecrow before he died apparently and they left it there as a tribute to him.
