Just Breaking on News Wires now.
According to Louise Troh, Duncan was very private about his illness and attended to himself. I tend to believe that they either knew or suspected that he had Ebola, so they kept him quarantined to one room. Also, one of the relatives is a healthcare worker, and she was the one that warned the paramedics to put on additional gear, so perhaps she was making sure that everyone stayed away from him and decontaminated any areas in the apartment where he may have been.
His viral load may have also been much lower in his first days in the apartment, so there was less chance of contagion.
It is very curious, though, that for a virus that is supposedly so “hard to catch”, why they took everything out of that apartment, including the permanent fixtures and incinerated it. I believe it was 5 or 6 truckloads, for an apartment that was described as “sparsely furnished”. But, no danger here. Move along now...
This f ing bastard needs to show some leadership on the issue and go help care for the (at least for now) two ebola cases in Dallas. NO face covering, respirator, or SCBA / hazmat suit, no shoe coverings. Just gloves. Whatever he said on TV is what he ought to get the opportunity to do.
Go for it, dude.
God damn them all to hell with ebola. All the 0 people for doing this, all the Republicans who haven't said jack hsit about it because they don't want to close the borders either.
There's gonna be hell to pay...
No doubt CDC Director Frieden will blame this poor health care giver for violating the non-existent CDC Ebola “protocols” and then proceed to explain how it’s imperative NOT to stop west African flights from infected countries because that will somehow accelerate the spread of Ebola in AFRICA and the ONLY way the U.S. will be safe is if we cure everyone in AFRICA of Ebola. I kid you not! I said all of this on Megyn Kelly last night. The most interesting matter of course is that he spilled the beans the the Obama administration is actually more concerned about the people of Africa than the citizens of the U.S.:

The problems with things like Ebola is that they grow exponentially. Even if Ebola grows slowly to start with, unfortunately, we ain’t seen nuttin yet. Just wait until flu and norovirus season hits to see what a completely paralyzed nation that battens down the barricades REALLY looks like as millions have symptoms that are much like how Ebola starts off! The trenches of our medical system are woefully unprepared for something like this. And thank you, President Obola for your “fundamental transformation” when flu season hits! Oh, and PLEASE let’s keep those West African shuttles flying back and forth, since obviously it would do no good anyway with your open borders policy.
Oh, and everyone? Be sure to vote a straight Democrat ticket in November: they really DO care about you folks, ya’ll hear? After all:
“Now, I am not on the ballot this fall,” Obama stressed. “... But make no mistake: My policies are on the ballot — every single one of them.” (Including unrestricted West African air flights.)

The stock market is worried about something this morning.
Why would you believe they would tell us the truth? That whole bunch is probably dead already and they can’t tell us now because of the fear and panic. They know that would cause social services to break down and civil unrest.
Where are the idiot Freeping Parrots that kept parroting WHO’s and CDC’s line that ebola is hard to catch?
They should have to go apologize in person and without protective care to these health care workers.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about!

Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Never knowing that 10 min. prior to my arriving at the pump a guy who was feeling bad, had wiped his nose with his hand just before he got out and did what I did after him. You see, he was on the way to the doctor or hospital because he knew that he had been in contact with someone who was infected with Ebola and wanted help.
I drive off to my destination having no idea that I have just acquired the virus.
UK Guardian is reporting the nurses union as saying the hospital gave them wrong protective gear, did not isolate Mr. Duncan immediately and also did not require a standard protocol of care.
I pray they are doing the necessary contact mapping right now.
PMs are spiking and the Dow is tanking.
You can’t fool big money.
No, it just means they have had to own up to the fact they were adding new cases into the numbers to make it look like a 50% death rate. Somebody finally asked the what the death rate was because charity doctors were coming back with the truth.
I would even question the nicely rounded 70% number because last week it was 84%.
Unless you are near an Ebola sufferer who is projectile-vomiting, typically quite likely to be the case.
It’s called “Point of Origin”. He would have never been allowed to board a plane out of there.
Not sure this is true. They are provided with plasma, not full blood.
I think they use Dr. Brantly because he was administered ZMAPP which is made with monoclonial antibodies which helps the immune system fight the disease. IMO
The pictures of two men (w/o protective gear) power washing the sidewalk in front of the apt. rings in my head. A woman with sandals also walking through the water trailing into the parking lot.
Let’s say the family did practice some sort of “one room” quarantine, did he use the bathroom? Did they feed him with plastic spoons and paper plates?
If he projectile vomited in front of the apartment, did he have an accident in the other living quarters of the apartment? A less than 1200 sq ft living space mind you.
Tick tick tick
“I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation.”
