My Mom who just turned 100, survived the flu at age four. The took her 1 year old brother out of the house! She also got the London Flu and lost her sense of smell for about 6 months.
The kids I knew who had polio were 'self quarantined' ... My sister's best friend came down with it when we were kids and my sister would stand outside her friend's house (back into the yard) and they would yell to each other to maintain the friendship. The girl died... I think she was around ten years old.
My G-Grandfather and several of his children and other relatives died of the Spanish Flu. They’re all buried side by side. The youngest was an infant. The tombstones show they died within a few days of each other.
Years ago I was at the cemetery with my dad and made a comment about them all dying within a few days of each other and he told me they died from the flu epidemic. It was the first I had heard of it.
I suspect as soon as we get enough cases in the United States the thugs in the Obama Administration will turn on a dine - and they'll want to round up sick and exposed people up and put them in camps.
Whatever the worst- most totalitarian decision is - is the one they'll make.
My aunt who died 30 years ago when she was 103 told me the 'spanish flu' moved so quickly that if you were out of town visiting for a few days, you'd come back to town and half your family would be dead. She might have been exaggerating..
As I’ve noted on other threads here, the little town of Gunnison, Colorado quarantined itself during the worst of the Spanish Flu pandemic, and thus emerged relatively unscathed.
The whole episode is discussed in a lot of historical sources, including this one:
http://decodedpast.com/spanish-flu-wartime-secrecy-creation-global-pandemic/3301
As the name of the link suggests, wartime secrecy contributed to the tardy recognition of the scope of the pandemic, a worrisome parallel to the cloak of secrecy the Obola administration has maintained concerning the destinations of the tens of thousands of young central American illegals. My deep suspicion, shared by many other posters here, is that this secrecy is intended to cloak the immediately obvious connection between the invasion of illegals and the mysterious appearance of the enterovirus D68 infection that has swept the country from coast to coast shortly after school began here in the U.S.
The enterovirus D68 contagion may be dissipating, but a disturbing thing the article I linked above notes is that the Spanish Flu hit the country in three waves. It was the second that claimed most of the nearly 700,000 lives lost in the United States (and many millions worldwide).
But of course, all Obola is concerned about is getting the matter past the election three weeks from now, and his quislings in the media are doing their normal excellent job of assisting him in keeping the dots from being connected by the steeple.
That must have been horrible, poor man

> Liberian national elections were to be held today but were canceled because of Ebola.
A fact that has not gone un-noticed by Obama.
> Polio. Yes there was until the vaccine.
I remember polio. They closed our school for several weeks and when we returned, we were missing two of our classmates, who had become paralyzed.
Dr. Salk was a godsend. After losing two classmates, I was terrified of even the word polio.
“Freedom of assembly”???
I just don’t see that at all.
I just read your profile, very awesome.
Yes, hard times, my grandparents and dad were 3 years in a Japanese concentration camp during the war.
The feds have been able to quarantine since 1944.
The NBC crew went from a voluntary quarantine to mandatory, ordered by New Jersey health officials.
And DFW.
The black plague lasted two hundred years.

Not from this article...but from research I had done several years ago about the 1918 Flu response in other cities there were some local governments which had banned religious services.
The Sacramental Churches (Catholic and Orthodox) defied the ban but compromised by having the front doors locked but side doors open.
