Dallas nurse Nina Pham, who contracted Ebola while treating a Liberian patient who died of the disease, issued an upbeat statement today saying that she is "doing well"
Pham has received a potentially life-saving transfusion from Dr. Kent Brantly, the missionary doctor who beat the virus two months ago, ABC News has learned.
Brantly flew to Dallas on Sunday, one day after Pham tested positive for the virus, sources said. He donated his blood, packed with antibodies that should fight the disease.
Jeremy Blume, a spokesman for the nonprofit medical mission group Samaritan's Purse, confirmed that the plasma donation came from Brantly. The missionary had received an experimental treatment and fought off the virus, and has donated blood for transfusions for three others, including Pham.
Pham, 26, expressed her gratitude today in a statement issued by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas where she worked and is now a patient.

We need to ask Dr. Brantly where we would like our donations to go. I’m ready to tithe to this hero!
With a 70% plus chance of death by melting, I'll eat a dog turd if that could increase my survival chances. Heck, I'd take blood from a West African with HIV, Malaria, and Hep C to rid my blood of ebola. I'll take my chances as they come.

Everyone, please consider calling your DC Critters to demand that the fake president stop the flights from ebola nations.
I called 3 of mine this morning...yes even the dems. I had to call him “President Obama”. That was painful.
Please call, it really is easy and we need to demand the president (fake) does job one, which is to protect the American people.
I know, he hates us, but if the dems (that’s why I called them) are under enough pressure and they pressure him, he might just stop those flights. I also added about shutting the borders to my demand for protection against ebola and the other diseases.
Please call.

I wonder how that works. Since the virus can still be found in semen for several months, might it still be found in the bloodstream as well? That blood would have to be handled very carefully. She was lucky that their blood types were compatible.
Also, I wonder since she says she is doing well (whatever that means when you have ebola), is she capable of doing some things for herself — like ordinary monitoring of temp, blood pressure, give herself meds, start an IV, etc.) that would help to limit the exposure to other health care providers?

Someone said that Brantly is a universal donor.
Three things.
They may not need to take that much blood.
Your blood level does return its former level.
Each new person with his blood, becomes another source of the antibodies.
Duncan didn’t get it because his blood wasn’t a match with Brantly’s.
And another day has passed without word from Louise or Jesse.
I think we’ve deduced he’s A+ because if he was universal (O-) or nearly universal (O+) he would have been able to donate to Duncan.
It has already incensed people where I work. Racist...
Pretty sure he would say The Samaritan’s Purse, but do not want to speak for him.
She seems like a sweet girl.
Prayers for her, her BF and the cute little doggie.
How can he run out of blood? Our blood keeps regenerating.
Do you know who that someone is? All reports that I'm aware of indicate his blood type was not a match for Duncan.
He is the true definition of a hero!!..I dont know how much plasma he can give over time but I assume once he donates his plasma that the others he donates to can continue to pass it on to others who might need it.
Does anybody know how long between showing Ebola and symptoms and death is (assuming one dies from it). Is it weeks or more ?
“I hope this works, but poor Dr. Brantly is going to be running out of blood, if they dont find another way to treat this disease.”
No, because he is actually donating his plasma only. When he donates, the red cells are separated from the plasma by centrifugation, and then he gets back his RBC’s. That prevents him from becoming anemic.
OTHOH, plasma donors are tested before each donation because too frequent donations can deplete the donor’s serum albumin, putting his body chemistry out of whack.
Still, he should be able to safely donate plasma rather frequently. Plasma is where the antibodies (i.e. globulins) are.
