“This vote was an empty public stunt that will have no impact other than to reduce the United Kingdom’s standing as an honest broker in international affairs," American Council for World Jewry Chairman Jack Rosen said in a statement following the vote that passed 274-12 in favor of the motion.

Makes me want to wear a sandwich board with “The End is Nigh” written on it!

Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya insisted that Hamas "would not abandon its weapons" on Saturday, boasting that the group is allegedly closer to defeating "the Israeli entity and its leaders" more than ever.

"We say to those who brought the Jews [to Israel] from all over the world, we are now confident and believe more than ever in the implementation of the promise of Allah - that we will not keep you [Jews] in our country," Al-Haya threatened. "The option available to you is to leave the country for its native residents [Palestinian Arabs]."

Al-Haya added, in this context, that Hamas is "paving the way" for the success of the Palestinian "unity government," noting that Sunday's talks for international aid for Gaza in Cairo legitimizes the terror group politically and proves that war works.

274-12 is about as lopsided as you can get. Not a good portent for either Israel or the UK.

“Symbolic” is another way of saying “pointless”.

LOL...not at all. 274-12 might seem that way, but it should be seen as what it is. 274 for (mostly labour socialist MP’s who have been TOLD to vote for it), 12 against (probably Jewish MP’s) and 360+ abstentions (dont know, dont care, think its pointless - which of course it is).

Good information. I don’t know a lot about British politics. Certainly, the MSM spin makes it sound overwhelming.

Also, instead of abstaining, I would have felt better if the others voted NO. When you abstain, you are basically ceding the issue to someone else. IMHO, its a form of cowardice.

That can certainly be so, but in this case its only technically abstention. Essentially this vote was taken on a privately introduced bill held at some god forsaken hour when most people weren’t even present. Normally the only people who attend such things are those who feel really, really strongly about the issue, one way or another, or who have a specialist interest in the field (whatever it might be). In this case that would have been about 20-30 members. The Labour MP’s were only there to swamp the vote because the party bosses had advised them to do so (one line whip).
