Can’t quit Mitt: Friends say Romney feels nudge to consider a 2016 presidential run
Washington Post ^ | October 13, 2014 | hilip Rucker and Robert Costa

-SNIP-

Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee and now the tacit head of the Republican Party, visited Iowa as part of a feverish nationwide tour designed to help the GOP take control of the Senate.

-SNIP-

Romney is grappling with this question: If drafted, would he answer the party’s call?

-SNIP-

Former aides and senior Republicans say Romney appreciates the GOP masses crowing that he was right about issues such as Russia and health care. But what really intrigues him, they said, are the vulnerabilities among top-tier candidates in the Republican field. If Romney moves toward a race, it would be because he sees a path to victory.

-SNIP-

“It’s the market pulling him,” said Kent Lucken, a longtime friend and adviser who accompanied Romney to Iowa. “People look at Hillary as the likely Democratic nominee, and the party needs a strong leader who can stand up to her and who’s been through the process.”

-SNIP-

Many Romney boosters believe that his window of opportunity will be in mid- to late 2015, should Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) or Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) ascend and party establishment types turn to Romney as a savior.

-SNIP-

“He’s the only qualified person to run this time,” Chidester said. “Mitt is a business genius. That’s why I’ve listened to this tape three times. He had it all down — he had Russia down, he had the debt down — and all the other Republicans are novices by comparison.”

I thought McCain was the tacit head of the GOP. Either that, or the Bush dynasty.

Willard should switch parties first.

The last conservative the GOP nominated was Reagan. It all went downhill from there after Bush I reneged on his “no new taxes” pledge. They got the loser Dole, Bush II who barely won twice, McCain who lost and Romney who lost. They haven’t a popular candidate since Reagan.

The GOP establishment will want him if Jeb Bush tanks.

It wants any one but a conservative.

...

That’s the truth. They’d rather lose to the Democrat.

He would have been a million times better than Obozo.

No. He probably would have been about 3 times better than Obozo.

You have to realize that he is contaminated with GOP-E parasites and will do anything they want.

I have to assume that you are one of the “little people” like me and really don’t count to the rich bastards that sold us down the river. You have to realize that crony capitalism is the name of the game and you and I are locked out....along with most of all of the conservative, patriotic voters.

Romney is “a member of the elite club” and don’t forget it. His only purpose for gaining office is to enrich himself and his cronies.

That’s why I don’t refer to Mitt as a RINO.

This is what the Republican Party has always been, outside of the Reagan years.

Why doesn’t Mitt just take a long shower and ___________ himself instead of trying to ___________ us again.

I certainly hope Myth remains a gentleman and doesn't say anything mean when he is appointed to the candidacy.

There are more important things than winning, right Myth?

It sure looks like that. This is why Cuccinelli had to lose in Virginia, why the guy who beat Cantor is being defunded, why radical left Charlie Baker had to be Governor of Massataxes and Thad Cochran had to be the nominee in Miss.

The left R’s will smack the conservatives upside the head every chance they get.

“People look at Hillary as the likely Democratic nominee, and the party needs a strong leader who can stand up to her and who’s been through the process.”

If there is one thing Mitt did to lose the election, it's that he would not stand up to Obama. The first debate was the only instance - and he crushed Obama. The rest of the race was kid gloves all the way. Hillary is was more fierce than Obama. Even if Mitt were an acceptable candidate, toe to toe I think Hillary would eat him alive.

I’m confident whomever our candidate is, we are going to lose in a major way. We love a person one day, we hate them the next.

Even those who express love and admiration for Palin and Cruz would disown them if they took even one contrary position to their own. The Democrats have nothing to worry about; we’ll destroy our own candidates—no matter how conservative—in short order.

Yep, they’re going to run him as a spoiler against Conservatives. Better Hillary than Cruz as far as the GOP-E is concerned.
