Exactly. Our health-care system cannot function with any real ebola outbreak. How long before doctors and nurses and orderlies stop showing up for work? Will the government force them to work?
I think nurses will be the concern they have the most patient contact. A doctor can do a lot without necessarily having patient contact. Nurses can quit their job and many nurses will choose not to work in the ICU. So if this gets even minimally bad you may see a shortage of ICU nurses. Moderately bad you will see Doctors and Nurses retire or quit.
Most likely they will bring in the Military to do this where they can actually force a Doctor to work. Civilian Doctors can refuse to take the case because they determine their hospital is under equipped to handle the patient care. They may be threatened by loss of hospital privileges or the State can threaten loss of license to practice. But I would think a good lawyer could fix this while earning a pretty penny for him or herself and their doctor client.
I also believe that Hospital personnel that care for an Ebola patient should be isolated until the incubation period has passed after last contact and they have tested negative to the virus.
