While getting pulled over is typically dreaded among drivers, for one fortunate woman from Michigan, it could be what saves her daughters life.
Officer Ben Hall of Emmett Township, Michigan, pulled over Alexis DeLorenzo and her five-year-old daughter because DeLorenzos daughter was riding without a car seat. In the state of Michigan, children under eight must be fastened into a booster seat while riding in any vehicle.
Hall learned that DeLorenzos car was actually repossessed earlier that day along with her daughters booster seat, which was inside the vehicle. But instead of writing DeLorenzo a ticket, which he felt would not help the situation, Hall met the family at Wal-Mart and purchased the little girl a booster seat. Image credit: Facebook
According to Officer Hall:
It was the easiest 50 bucks I ever spent.
DeLorenzo made sure that people know about Halls gracious act of kindness by writing a thank you letter on the Emmett Township Police Departments website.
I would like to say thank you to officer Hall for his help and compassion. Last night he helped me and my family out more than he will ever know. I recently hit a financial struggle, lost my vehicle, and my childrens car seats. And last night officer Hall was doing his job and saw that my daughter was not in a car seat, and yes I know how important it is for her to be in one, he went out of his way, and out of his own pocket, and purchased my daughter a car seat. I thank God for putting you in my life officer Hall. You are an amazing man, and I will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed me, and you also showed my daughter and myself that there are people out there that care. Thank you!
The departments Facebook page was flooded with similar sentiments thanking Hall for his service:
People from all over the country and world were inspired by the story:
And many noted the selflessness behind Officer Halls simple act:
We hear about so many stories of police brutality and can forget about the true heroes that are out there every day helping people and making our country a better place.
Its officers like Hall that should be recognized, because while this may be a small gesture, it wont be one that is quickly forgotten.
And if the car seat fails, the cop will be sued along with Walmart.
No good deed goes unpunished.
*sigh*
Holy smokes, a good guy for once?
CLONE HIM, NOW.
The cop that used to live next door to me was that kind of guy.
I feel kind of sorry for him having to work in Ann Arbor. Last time I saw him he was on the news with an aging hippie professor screaming in his face with a bullhorn about Israeli “genocide” against palestinians.
An awfully well documented act of compassion.
Yes. There are loads of good cops. Even though I run the JBT ping list, in nearly every single encounter I’ve had with the police, they have been fair, honest and straightforward.
The vanishingly few instances where it wasn’t perfect have been mild and subject to more charitable interpretations.
That’s why I shine the spotlight on every episode of thuggish behavior under color of authoritah that I come across, sunlight is a disinfectant!
Thanks for posting this, N&V. Nice to see a happy story shining through all the despair and gloom these days.
In a world of universal cell phone cameras, this is remarkable because why?
In my area, the cop would have ticketed her, berated her, and called CPS.
Just amazing... here’s a father who does something nice for a woman’s little girl and does it because its the right thing to do - not because its a duty.
Its also the Christian response to distress - which a lot of so-called conservatives often forget: “What you do for Me, do for the least of you also.”
It’s not like we haven’t been trying to get you and yours to move to civilization for years...
True.
But kinda hard when the funding isn’t there.
NOT GUILTY!
And besides, who would tell all those truckers “This isn’t Home Depot”?
Human kindness is always remarkable.
A local cop in my town went to the vet’s clinic to help me get my dog home - it was closed and it was a Sunday and he went any way even though he wasn’t under any obligation.
We live in a world filled with evil and its doing a good deed that stands out.
I see it as proof God really is involved in our lives and we can all be touched by a miracle.
Matthew 6:1-4
Now it is “Didn’t you see the UNFI sign ahead of you before you turned?”
Idiot driver is looking for UNFI, sees the sign, admits he saw the sign, STILL turns and ends up at my truck exit where he argues that we MUST be UNFI because his GPS says so.
And every single last one of them admits they saw the sign.
This morning it was a guy in my truck exit.
He turned LEFT away from the sign reading “525 Neelytown Road”.
Because, after all, it is logical in his world that the address he is looking for is across the street from the sign and humongous driveway the sign is by!
There is a big difference between doing something to be seen, and being seen doing something.
Would you make a conscious decision to fail to help where needed just because someone would see you helping?
