ASHEVILLE, N.C. Federal U.S. District Court Judge Max O. Cogburn Jr. has overturned North Carolinas ban on same-sex marriage.
The case was filed by members of the clergy seeking to marry gay couples.

Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Thom Tillis issued the following statement following the ban being overturned:
While we recognize the tremendous passion on all sides of this issue, we promised to defend the will of North Carolina voters because they not judges and not politicians define marriage as between one man and one woman and placed that in our state constitution. It is disappointing this decision was made without North Carolinas law receiving its day in court, and we will continue to work to ensure the voice of the voters is heard.

Yes they do. I lived in Palm Springs for 25 years so I am not unfamiliar with the culture.

Thank you for taking the time to email me regarding your concern with the flying of the rainbow flag. I recognize that marriage equality can be a divisive issue in our community, but this was an opportunity to celebrate what I see as a civil rights victory. As you’ve seen and heard, North Carolina is now recognizing same sex marriage. This change greatly affects many in the City of Asheville. Recognizing the triumph of the LGBT community, should not be interpreted to undermine the viewpoints of others. Again, thank you for reaching out to me regarding the flag.
